Arizona — Boxing And Mixed Martial Arts Promoter Bond

Arizona separates a promoter's licensing bond from any additional security required for an individual contest. The Commission's published handbook uses a $20,000 annual bond, while current law gives the Commission authority to set the amount. Confirm whether your request is annual, event-specific or both before applying.

What this bond does

The licensing undertaking is executed in favor of the State of Arizona for faithful performance of the promoter's statutory and rule obligations. Additional event security may guarantee that contest's contracts, license and gross-receipts tax payments, and reimbursement to ticket purchasers if the contest is not held as advertised.

Who needs it
Boxing and MMA promoters responding to an Arizona State Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts Commission security request. This page does not determine whether a particular amateur contest is exempt or approve a promoter, corporation or show.
Who it protects
The bond is financial security, not the event's required insurance or evidence that all licenses have been granted. An annual filing does not automatically satisfy a separately required event bond. Use the Department's accepted instrument for the particular obligation.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Details of Arizona's annual and event security

The 2023 handbook contains a performance bond naming the State of Arizona, a promoter principal, surety and Commission approval. It refers to $20,000 licensing security and includes a power-of-attorney attachment. The 2019 annual/event policy also uses at least $20,000 for annual security, but expressly identifies itself as advisory. Current Sections 5-228(E) and 5-229(B) make the Commission's required amount and distinction between licensing and additional contest security controlling.

Do not copy the old packet's calendar-year language into an application without checking the dates. Current Section 5-230 says a license expires 365 days after issuance. The handbook separately instructs promoters to keep the bond current through its issued expiration. Match the accepted license and bond periods rather than assuming either document renews the other.

The handbook's event request is a separate application, with venue, event type, weigh-in and matchmaker information. Its licensing checklist also asks for financial records and background material. Arrange those filings independently; completing a provider bond application does not submit the Commission's event request.

Have these ready

  1. Obtain the Commission's current annual and any additional event-security requests, with amounts and accepted forms.
  2. Use the licensed promoter's legal name and prepare ownership and financial information required for the entity.
  3. Check the required effective and expiration dates against the current license period, not the old packet's calendar-year wording.
  4. Review principal/surety execution, the power of attorney and Commission filing or approval instructions.
  5. Keep the separate event request, contestant contracts and required insurance in the event file.

Questions about this bond

Does one annual bond cover every required event filing?

No. Current Section 5-229(B) permits additional security before a contest, beyond the licensing bond required under Section 5-228(E). Ask whether the Commission requires a separate event undertaking and sum for your show.

Is $20,000 a fixed statutory amount for all promoters?

No fixed amount is stated in the current statutory sections reviewed. The published handbook and advisory policy use $20,000 annual security; the Commission sets the amount required for the actual filing and may require additional contest security.

Should the bond end on December 31?

Do not infer that from the older packet. Current Section 5-230 states that a license expires 365 days after issuance. Confirm the bond's accepted dates and keep its security current as directed; a license period is not an automatic bond extension.
