Arizona — Private Investigator License Bond
Arizona DPS tells applicants to wait until its Licensing Unit has notified them that they are approved to become an agency before obtaining the bond. Once you have that notice, prepare the $2,500 private-investigation agency security through The Southern Agency with the approved principal and agency/DBA details.

What this bond does
Meet the agency financial-responsibility requirement in A.R.S. §32-2423 before an original or renewal licence is issued. The instrument runs in favour of the State, through a corporation licensed for fidelity and surety business in Arizona, and must be continuous in form and concurrent with the licence period.
- Who needs it
- The private-investigation agency applicant, with its actual legal structure and qualifying-party file. This is not a personal financial requirement established merely by an employee/associate registration card or an unrelated security-guard role.
- Who it protects
- The statutory security is in favour of the State for the benefit of a person injured by acts of the investigator, agency or employees and is subject to claims by an injured person. It does not promise automatic compensation, approve the agency or provide the separate workers’ compensation coverage needed when applicable.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Questions about this bond
Should I order as soon as I begin the agency application?
No. DPS’s current instructions expressly say to wait for Licensing Unit notification that you are approved to become an agency. Prepare the details now, but obtain the security after that notice.
Is this established by my individual registration card alone?
No. Section 32-2423 is the private-investigation agency financial requirement. Match the actual agency applicant and file rather than treating an employee/associate card or security-guard role as the principal.
Is the qualifying-party name enough for an LLC or DBA?
Use the approved legal applicant and structure, principal and applicable agency DBA details. DPS specifically calls for both principal and agency/DBA identification on the financial document; a role label alone is not a substitute for those details.
Does buying replacement security automatically reinstate a cancelled agency licence?
No. Section 32-2423(D) describes a separate qualifying-party reinstatement process with security concurrent with the remaining period. Complete the required DPS process before assuming authority has been restored.
