Camden, NJ — Street Opening Bond

For work opening a City of Camden street, prepare the security requested by the Division of Capital Improvements and Project Management. The City's current street-opening packet calls for performance and maintenance security, with different plan checklists for development projects and residential/utility openings. Obtain the City Engineer's work-specific form and amount before applying.

What this bond does

Provide the required surety security for a City of Camden street opening and its restoration, matched to the City's accepted performance and maintenance requirements.

Who needs it
The property or utility owner and contractor or utility-company co-applicant identified in Camden's opening application, with the required bond principal confirmed.
Who it protects
The security supports the City's permitted-work and restoration requirements. Its accepted form determines the obligation; it is not a contractor license or permission to open the street.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Use the checklist that fits the opening

Camden's current Street & Sidewalk Openings page links its 2026 road-opening packet. For minor and major commercial or residential developments, the checklist requests three approved, signed and sealed plans prepared by the appropriate professional and approved by the Planning/Zoning Board.

The separate residential/utility-opening checklist requests three detailed plot plans showing the driveway, opening or work area. Both checklists call for a completed application, insurance evidence and performance and maintenance security. Ask the City Engineer which requirements apply to your work.

The application distinguishes the property/utility owner from the contractor/utility-company co-applicant. Prepare the scope, block and lot, opening dimensions, construction sketch and responsible contacts. The City must confirm who is to be named as bond principal and which instruments it accepts.

Confirm the assigned security before purchasing

The selected packet does not establish a universal bond sum or term. Obtain the City's amount, form and performance/maintenance conditions; an inspection escrow or permit charge is not a substitute for the required security.

Purchase Now opens the existing Propeller application, which lists no fixed amount or term. Have the assigned requirement matched before issuance, then check the principal, City recipient, project identification and dates. Do not assume a street-opening application includes a separately required maintenance instrument.

Submit the executed security with the City's required application materials for permit review. The City requires permission before opening the street to work underneath it. Traffic-control arrangements need preapproval when traffic is restricted, and inspections must be scheduled. A bond purchase does not supply those approvals; separate sidewalk work has its own permit requirement.

Questions about this bond

Is the property owner always the only applicant?

Camden's form has separate property/utility-owner and contractor/utility-company co-applicant fields and signatures. Identify both roles and have the City confirm the bond principal.

Does the street-opening packet specify one bond amount for every job?

No universal amount or term is established in the selected packet. Obtain the City Engineer's assigned security and accepted form for the actual scope before issuance.

Does this purchase include maintenance security and traffic approval?

Do not assume either. Have the City and issuer match the required performance and maintenance instruments. Permit review, traffic-control preapproval when needed and inspections remain separate City processes.
