What this bond does

The registered serviceman or service agency undertaking backs compliance with Georgia’s weighing and measuring service rules. It is separate from approval of the company’s test weights and each mechanic’s knowledge test.

Who needs it
Businesses installing or repairing commercial weighing devices in Georgia and matching the bond request for GDA’s Scale Mechanic program. Keep the company applicant distinct from its individually licensed mechanics.
Who it protects
The posted bond runs to Georgia’s Commissioner of Agriculture for the benefit of device owners. Its conditions address regulatory compliance and injury or damage caused by the principal’s negligence, incompetence or misconduct in the registered duties.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

One company bond, separate mechanic credentials

GDA’s current instructions call for a single-company $1,000 bond. The company registration asks for the business identity, class of weights and names of servicemen; the mechanics have separate applications and knowledge-test records.

Company licensing follows approval of weights calibration. GDA describes weights retesting every two years, while the individual mechanic license does not expire and transfers must be reported when an employer changes. Those credential rules do not set the bond’s duration.

Use the current GDA packet and licensing sequence

Purchase Now opens RLI in a new tab. Prepare the GDA-identified principal, Commissioner recipient, $1,000 sum, accepted registered-serviceman/service-agency form and effective date.

Review the issued document and provide it to Fuel & Measures with the requested licensing materials. GDA’s process calls for approved calibration, mechanic test results, accepted bond and secure/verifiable documents before issuing the license. The December 2025 packet’s bond continues until canceled; it is not a two-year calibration certificate.

Questions about this bond

Do I need a $1,000 bond for every mechanic?

GDA’s current instructions ask the company for a single-company $1,000 bond. Mechanics still need their own licensing/test records. Match the principal to GDA’s company request.

Does retesting weights every two years renew the bond?

Weights calibration and the bond are different requirements. The posted bond is continuous until canceled; the company’s two-year weights retesting cycle does not establish an automatic bond expiry.

Can the surety cancel the posted form immediately?

The form requires written notice to the Commissioner and a 90-day interval from receipt before cancellation takes effect. It preserves rights for claims arising before the cancellation effective date.
