What this bond does

The single undertaking covers the principal's construction and repair work in the City during the stated period instead of separate security for each case. Its conditions address City compliance, indemnity, covered owner/tenant claims and restoration of disturbed public ways.

Who needs it
The legal building contractor or carpenter applying for the City license. New applicants must supply the experience/qualification form. The application records City licensing, Maryland MHIC and homebuilder registration separately; one entry does not substitute for all applicable credentials.
Who it protects
The Mayor and Council are the named obligee. The complete form includes settling specified claims of owners, tenants and lessees, but expressly gives the City priority: other parties have no interest under the instrument until the City is fully paid or reimbursed. Do not promise unrestricted immediate private recovery.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Details for the current original form and City priority

The current licensing page selects the 2027 packet and requires the original $20,000 bond on the City's form. The packet fixes December 31, 2027 as the end date and leaves the beginning for the actual filing. A new applicant also completes work experience, qualifications and references; do not assume the odd-year cycle supplies an automatic full two-year term from purchase.

The actual conditions include compliance with City rules, indemnifying the Mayor and Council and their agents/employees, settling specified owner/tenant/lessee claims arising from wrongdoing or deficient work, and restoring disturbed streets and other public ways. The City's express priority qualifies others' rights under the instrument.

Either principal or surety may terminate by written notice to the Building Inspector, effective only after 30 days from receipt. That does not release liabilities arising, or later arising, from work actually begun before that period ends. Execute the principal and surety portions and required seals/witnessing, then deliver the accepted original separately from obtaining project permits.

Sources

Have these ready

  1. Use the currently selected City contractor/carpenter packet, not the old 2025 undertaking.
  2. Match the legal principal, original $20,000 form and actual period ending December 31, 2027.
  3. Prepare the experience, qualification and reference form for a new application.
  4. Arrange principal and surety execution, seals and witnessing on the accepted original.
  5. File the licensing documents and obtain required construction permits before work.

Questions about this bond

Is every purchase automatically a full two-year bond?

The current packet has an actual beginning-date blank and a fixed December 31, 2027 end date. Confirm the accepted starting period rather than treating the odd-year cycle as two years from any purchase date.

Does termination immediately release work already started?

The form requires written notice received by the Building Inspector and a 30-day period. It preserves liabilities arising or later arising from covered work begun before that period ends.

What follows Purchase Now?

Propeller's Hagerstown building-contractor/carpenter application opens in a new tab. Match the legal principal, current original City form, $20,000 security, protected parties and priority, operative conditions and accepted dates before finalizing. Execute and submit the original with the City application; purchase does not grant the license or authorize work without permits.
