What this bond does

Provide County-accepted security for the applicant's permitted road opening and restoration responsibilities. This is the road-opening offering, separate from the County curb offering and any municipality's own bond.

Who needs it
A utility, property owner or contractor applying for work on a Hudson County roadway. The permit application identifies the responsible applicant as well as the owner and contractors doing the work.
Who it protects
The guarantee gives the County recourse when the permittee fails to meet the accepted opening and restoration requirements. It does not insure the applicant against every project loss or authorize excavation without an approved permit.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Measure the opening and check the road's paving history

The current County performance-bond schedule lists a $5,000 minimum for an opening up to 20 square feet. Above 20 square feet, it lists $5,000 plus $20 for each square foot above that threshold.

Multiple openings have a $5,000 minimum each. Roads paved within five years have a $50,000 requirement or an amount determined by the County Engineer. Ask the Engineer to confirm the calculation and whether the proposed opening is allowed; these entries are not an unlimited blanket arrangement.

Curb and driveway guarantees and bridge-work guarantees have their own schedule entries. Disclose those parts of the project rather than assuming one road-opening purchase satisfies all work categories.

Prepare the County application, not just the bond

Gather the County route, municipality, site and cross streets, opening dimensions, surface type, purpose and proposed work and restoration dates. The application separately asks for property-owner, applicant, contractor and emergency-contact information.

The County requests plans or a sketch, insurance, traffic-control information and applicable local permits. Its current conditions require County Engineer approval of the certificate of insurance and written identification of contractors and subcontractors. A city or town permit does not replace this County submission.

Issue security and obtain permission before opening the road

Purchase Now opens the retained Propeller Road Opening Bond offering. Match the County-approved form and amount, responsible applicant and project description before proceeding. Submit the issued bond as directed in the County permit application; buying it does not approve the work.

After permit approval, the County conditions call for at least 48 hours' advance work notice and proof that the One Call damage-prevention system has been notified. Arrange traffic protection and inspections as required and keep the original permit at the work site.

The selected packet describes guarantee return one year after final restoration, pending County Engineer approval, with possible extended maintenance and additional security. Record the actual restoration and acceptance dates. The period is not established simply by the date you buy the bond.

Questions about this bond

Is $5,000 enough for every Hudson County opening?

No. It is the listed minimum up to 20 square feet; larger openings, multiple openings and recently paved roads have different schedule entries. Confirm your calculation with the County Engineer.

Does one $5,000 bond cover several openings?

The current schedule states a $5,000 minimum for each of multiple openings. Do not treat a single purchase as blanket approval for unlisted excavations.

Can I use the County curb bond instead?

Not without the County's direction. Its curb and driveway guarantee categories are distinct from road-opening performance security.

Does bond issuance let the crew begin digging?

No. Obtain the County permit and complete the required advance notice, utility mark-outs, traffic controls and other conditions before starting.
