Idaho — Vehicle Or Vessel Dealer (Retail - ) Bond

Use the Idaho retail vehicle-or-vessel dealer application, not the wholesale-only class, when preparing this bond. ITD's initial dealer requirements distinguish the retail security from other dealer categories and require the bond to match the dealership's ownership, DBA and location.

What this bond does

Provide the dealer performance security in an Idaho retail licensing file when required. The business classification and any applicable bond exemption need to be settled with ITD first.

Who needs it
A retail vehicle or vessel dealership preparing the Idaho dealer-license bond requirement, rather than an owner resolving the title of a single vehicle or boat.
Who it protects
ITD lists a dealer performance bond separately from liability insurance and the Idaho Consumer Asset Recovery Fund. The accepted bond defines its covered obligation; those separate requirements should not be treated as interchangeable protection.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Confirm the retail class before the bond is issued

ITD lists $20,000 for retail dealers at initial application, $40,000 for wholesale-only dealers and a different amount for specified specialty dealers. Those distinctions matter more than the broad words vehicle or vessel. Ask Dealer Operations to confirm the actual class and any exemption for your business.

The Department also describes a possible bond exemption after qualifying operating history. It is not an automatic exemption for a new retailer. Keep the exact ownership, DBA and dealership address consistent between the license application and issued security.

Purchase Now opens Propeller. Review the retail classification, applicant, requested sum and dates before submitting. Then follow ITD's dealer-license filing directions; the bond does not replace the rest of the application or approve the location.

Sources

Have these ready

  1. Confirm the retail dealer category and any applicable exemption with ITD.
  2. Use the exact ownership, DBA and dealership location on the license application.
  3. Have the Department's required security amount and accepted form available.
  4. Keep license filing, liability insurance and ICAR requirements separate from the bond application.

Questions about this bond

Can I use the wholesale-only dealer requirements?

Not simply because the business sells vehicles or vessels. ITD assigns different security to retail, wholesale-only and specified specialty categories. Match this retail offering to the category on your actual license file.

Does every established dealer still need a bond?

ITD describes a possible exemption after qualifying operating history without the specified lapses or claims. Ask the Department whether it applies to your file rather than assuming that an existing dealership is exempt.

Is this a title bond for a vehicle I own?

This is a dealership licensing offering. A single vehicle's or vessel's ownership/title problem is a different request. Purchase Now opens Propeller for the dealer application, not an ITD title determination.
