What this bond does

Iowa Code Section 80A.10 requires an agency bond filed with the Department of Public Safety before a license is issued. The minimum is $5,000 for bail enforcement alone or $10,000 for more than one Chapter 80A business type.

Who needs it
Iowa bail enforcement agency applicants and licensees arranging agency security. The amount depends on licensed business types, not the number of defendants or recovery assignments.
Who it protects
The bond secures faithful, lawful and honest conduct by the applicant and its employees in the licensed business. A person injured by a breach may seek legal damages on the bond, within its aggregate limit.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Count the licensed business types

Bail enforcement, private investigation and private security are the Chapter 80A business types. Bail enforcement alone uses the $5,000 minimum; an agency combining licensed types needs at least $10,000.

DPS requires the agency name on the bond to match the license application exactly. Use the legal agency identity rather than a recovery agent’s name in place of the business applicant.

Apply with the PD6 requirement ready

Purchase Now opens Propeller in a new tab. Have the agency identity, selected license types, PD6 surety bond form and required dates available.

After issuance, review the bond and completed PD6. DPS instructs initial applicants to upload both together in the agency license application. Separate liability insurance evidence and employee ID requirements are not satisfied by buying the bond.

Questions about this bond

Is this a bond to release someone from jail?

No. It is licensing security for an agency conducting bail enforcement. It does not secure a defendant’s release or court appearance.

Does hiring more recovery agents increase the statutory sum?

Section 80A.10 sets the sum by the number of licensed business types: one type versus more than one. It does not base that choice on employee count.

What do I submit after the bond is issued?

For an initial license, DPS requires the surety bond and completed PD6 form together in the agency application. The agency name must match the license application.
