The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Bond Amount

R.S. 35:71 states a general $50,000 bond obligation, expressly introduced by “Unless otherwise provided by law.” Do not assume every notary has identical statutory treatment.

Bond Renewal

Bonds must generally be renewed every five years to keep the notarial commission valid.

Commission Suspension

Subsection E describes automatic suspension for failure to renew or file the required bond, but expressly excludes licensed attorneys from that automatic-suspension provision. Confirm the applicable status rather than extending that rule to every notary.
