What this bond does

Provide the permit bond required by McKees Rocks Borough for work authorized under its street-opening and excavation rules.

Who needs it
Persons, contractors and utilities applying for openings in roadways under McKees Rocks Borough jurisdiction.
Who it protects
The permit bond secures performance of authorized work and restoration duties under the accepted condition. It does not guarantee all obligations on an unrelated construction contract.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Prepare the opening location and plan

The borough’s online application requests starting and estimated completion dates, the opening address, pavement or sidewalk type, dimensions and a sketch plan showing the location and relationship to the centerline and curb or gutter.

The code also calls for photographs documenting existing conditions. Give the borough the actual undertaking; purchasing a bond does not issue the opening permit.

Use the borough’s estimate and term

Section 575-24 bases the ordinary bond on restoration cost estimated by the Foreman or Engineer, with a $400 minimum unless the Manager authorizes otherwise in writing. Corporate surety must be acceptable to the borough.

The ordinary term starts with permit issuance and continues until a date up to one year after approval of final restoration. Obtain the actual dates rather than assuming a one-year term beginning at purchase.

Confirm individual or continuing security

The code allows one approved bond for multiple permits and separately provides for annual utility bonds at borough discretion. The borough determines the amount and terms; additional utility security may be required if the annual amount becomes insufficient.

Before using the purchase link, match the requested principal, recipient, form, sum and dates. Then file the executed bond with the borough, complete permit approval and coordinate restoration acceptance and release.

Questions about this bond

Is $400 the amount for every opening?

No. It is the ordinary code minimum, subject to written Manager authorization. The required amount follows the borough’s restoration estimate.

Can one bond cover several permits?

The code permits an approved multiple-permit bond with borough-determined amount and terms. Do not assume the listed option already has that scope.

Does the ordinary bond expire one year after I buy it?

No. The code relates its term to permit issuance and approval of final restoration. Confirm the actual condition and release date.
