Mishawaka, IN — Contractor License (Engineering Department) Bond

Mishawaka Engineering publishes a $5,000 Bond for Excavation in Streets, payable to the City of Mishawaka. It addresses work in City streets, alleys and public rights-of-way, including work under private contracts. Match that Engineering request rather than a Building Department license bond.

What this bond does

Provide the Department of Public Works bond filed through Engineering for the specified street and right-of-way work.

Who needs it
Contractors with a Mishawaka Engineering or Public Works bonding request involving City streets or rights-of-way.
Who it protects
The form requires proper execution of the work, excavation backfill and compaction, pavement restoration and correction of restoration defects. It also addresses City loss or liability through the contractor's fault or that of its agents or employees; it is not blanket security for every private construction contract.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Use the Engineering bond package

Engineering's information sheet requires the Public Works bond on legal-size paper, an attached power of attorney and the completed contractor information sheet. The sheet separately identifies the owner and contractor/business, bond number and listed insurance company.

Return the package to Engineering. Do not substitute Building licensing paperwork just because the bond amounts match. Engineering also administers separate permits for excavation, sewer connections and other right-of-way activities.

Check the calendar year and continuing work obligations

The information sheet describes January 1–December 31 coverage and annual renewal by a continuation certificate carrying the original bond number. If the listed insurance company changes, the sheet calls for a new bond and information sheet.

The bond also continues obligations for one year after completion and acceptance of each piece of work. Do not treat December 31 as a promise that every work obligation ends then.

Purchase Now opens Propeller in a new tab. Confirm the Engineering form, applicant, City recipient, $5,000 and actual dates before applying. After issuance, check execution and assemble the requested package for Engineering; issuance alone does not grant permission to excavate.

Questions about this bond

Can this apply to work under a private contract?

Yes. The published form expressly addresses City street, alley and right-of-way work under private property-owner contracts as well as contracts with the City.

Is a continuation certificate contemplated?

Yes. Engineering's sheet calls for annual continuation with the original bond number. Its separate new-bond instruction applies when the listed insurance company changes.

Is this the same form as a Building Department license bond?

No automatic equivalence follows from the shared $5,000 amount. Use the department and obligation stated in your request.
