Pocatello, ID — Building Class A-1 Contractor Bond

Pocatello's displayed construction-trades code assigns $50,000 security to the Class A-1 commercial builder. That category covers commercial construction, demolition, alteration and repair and also permits Class A-2 residential and Class B work. Match the actual City classification rather than applying the A-2 category's smaller security.

What this bond does

The City's code allows bond claims for listed contractor failures, including contract completion, required subcontractor and material payments and permit/code/inspection duties. The security supports those licensing obligations; it does not itself qualify the applicant for Class A-1.

Who needs it
The legal contractor applying for the City's Class A-1 commercial-builder license. Prepare the actual classification evidence and application, including one of the experience, equivalent-license or examination routes the code permits.
Who it protects
Section 15.03.060 expressly gives the City claim rights for failure to meet the listed duties. That operative rule establishes the City's role and the secured conduct without assuming the insurance certificate holder defines the bond or promising every customer an unrestricted private action.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Details for A-1 commercial scope and contractor duties

The code distinguishes Class A-1 commercial building from Class A-2 one- and two-family residential building and Class B limited work. Its table requires $50,000 security for A-1, separately from liability insurance. Use the actual A-1 requirement and preserve the required coverage instead of treating a residential bond sum as sufficient for the commercial category.

An A-1 applicant must provide proof of five years' continuous satisfactory applicable experience, an equivalent license in good standing from another jurisdiction, or pass the City's written proficiency examination. These are alternatives, not an instruction that every applicant must both document five years and take the exam. Complete the City application and separately required coverage evidence.

Builders must provide a written contract or accepted bid/estimate signed by builder and client when applying for the covered permit. The City's duties also address completion, subcontractor and material payments, ordered inspections and final approval, including responsibility for subcontracted work. Keep license renewal by December 31 separate from the actual bond's accepted dates and continuation.

Questions about this bond

Can I use the Class A-2 security for A-1 commercial work?

The displayed code assigns $50,000 security to A-1 and separately assigns $25,000 to A-2. Match the actual commercial classification and accepted filing; A-1's authority to perform residential work does not reduce its stated security.

Must I both prove five years and take the examination?

The code lists satisfactory applicable experience, an equivalent license in good standing, or the written proficiency examination as alternative routes. Confirm which evidence the City accepts for the actual A-1 application.
