What this bond does

Provide the security identified in the county's contractor registration request, using the county form rather than a neighboring city's instrument.

Who needs it
Contractors whose applicable Polk County registration file calls for the posted $5,000 surety form.
Who it protects
The form names Polk County's Board of County Commissioners and addresses covered county-code failures and correction of defective workmanship or materials. It is not the contractor's liability insurance.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Match both the qualifier and the company

The bond calls for the qualifier's name and company name as they appear on the state license, and a principal signature identified as the qualifier and license holder. A company name alone does not complete those fields.

The county's posted State Registered and County Specialty Registration Form lists the surety separately from insurance, the construction waste/setback acknowledgment and a first-registration reciprocity letter. Have the county identify your current applicable license category; a letter about license reciprocity is not itself the bond.

Do not turn registration renewal into a bond term

The surety form is continuous until cancellation and includes ninety days' written notice to the county board and principal. The registration sheet's two-year renewal cycle does not make this a two-year bond.

Purchase Now opens RLI in a new tab. After issuance, check the $5,000 amount, names, county wording and execution, then follow Contractor Licensing's current delivery instructions. RLI issuance does not complete county registration or establish that a municipality accepts the county instrument.

Sources

Have these ready

  1. Have the county's current class-specific registration request.
  2. Match the qualifier and company to the state license.
  3. Use the county's $5,000 form and continuous wording.
  4. Keep reciprocity, insurance and other county registration documents separate.
  5. Check the issued instrument before county delivery.

Questions about this bond

Is the bond renewed every two years like registration?

The posted bond is continuous with its own cancellation provisions. The registration sheet's two-year cycle is a different requirement, not a published bond term.

Does a reciprocity letter replace the surety?

No. The posted registration sheet lists the bond and first-registration reciprocity letter as separate items. Ask the county which documents apply to your current credential.

Can I use a city's form because its amount is also $5,000?

Do not assume equal amounts mean equal instruments. Match the county's accepted form and ask the requesting office about any proposed alternative or existing bond.
