What this bond does

Provide the recorded unified licensing security requested for Porter County contractor registration.

Who needs it
Contractors registering or renewing through the Porter County Building Department, including those checking a municipality's separate requirements.
Who it protects
The unified instrument names the County and its municipalities for the accepted licensing obligation. It is not itself a municipal contractor license, building permit or project-owner performance/payment bond.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Use the unified recipient, not just the office address

The Recorder states the obligee wording as “Porter County and all cities, towns, and municipalities within Porter County” and says it will not record a non-Unified License Bond. The County registration instructions separately name the Plan Commission as insurance certificate holder; that insurance instruction is not substitute bond wording.

The Recorder also directs applicants to check the municipality's requested sum. County registration's $5,000 requirement is not proof that every municipality or project accepts the same sum or that municipal registration is complete.

Record first, then complete County registration

The current Building Department says all contractors must register in the new online portal. Its linked portal instructions direct applicants to select Indiana and Porter County, verify their account and use Building Contractor Start Application to upload the recorded bond and separate insurance documents.

Purchase Now opens RLI in a new tab. Match the applicant, unified form, recipient wording, requested sum and dates before applying. After issuance and execution, complete Recorder filing and use the recorded copy for the registration application. The current portal route supersedes relying on the older instruction sheet's fax/mail application route.

Recording can be handled in person or by mail/overnight under the Recorder's instructions. Its offered emailed recorded copy is different from issuance or approval of your contractor registration.

  3. Arrange issued-document recording and retain the recorded copy.

Questions about this bond

Can a Town-only bond be recorded as the County unified bond?

The County Recorder says non-Unified License Bonds will not be recorded. Use its required County-and-all-municipalities wording for this route.

Does recording the unified bond register me with every town?

No. Unified security avoids separate bonds under that route, but does not itself issue each municipality's contractor license or establish that every requested amount is $5,000.

Should I use the old sheet's fax/mail registration instructions?

Use the current Building Department's linked portal instructions for contractor registration. Recorder delivery and subsequent registration are separate steps.
