Ridgeland, MS — Contractor's License Bond

Ridgeland's general-contractor packet requires its own $5,000 bond form, an original signed bond and filing with the Building Permit Division. Confirm the principal format before issuance: the instructions call for an individual or individual doing business as a company, with additional officer-signature directions if written as a corporation.

What this bond does

Provide the City's specified contractor security for the right to apply for permits, alongside its separate licensing documents.

Who needs it
General contractors matching individual/business identity, execution and any representative's authority to Ridgeland's application packet.
Who it protects
The form addresses faithful permitted work, City and State compliance, specified violation damages and City indemnity. It is not liability insurance or automatically a separate project owner's performance/payment bond.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Resolve the principal name and original execution

Do not use the business-name field alone to decide the principal. The packet's individual/DBA and corporate-execution instructions need to be matched to your accepted City request before the surety writes it.

The instructions require the City's form, signed original, surety Power of Attorney and seal, corporate seal and contractor mailing address/local telephone. The application separately asks for a signed license application, State Certificate of Responsibility if applicable and photo ID presented in person.

Separate surety execution from permit-representative authority

The surety Power of Attorney belongs with bond execution. If a representative will take out permits, the packet separately calls for an attorney-prepared authorization letter giving Limited Power of Attorney on file with Community Development. One document is not automatically a substitute for the other.

The form specifies 30 days' written surety cancellation notice to the Building Official, preserving fixed liability and unfinished prior-permit work. Its five-day violation-correction provision concerns the specified damages demand, not a general claim deadline.

Purchase Now opens RLI in a new tab. Match the accepted principal, City form, $5,000 and actual dates before applying. Check execution, seals and authority documents after issuance, then complete original filing and separate licensing steps. Provider payment does not issue a City permit.

Questions about this bond

Can I use any company's standard $5,000 form?

The packet says City-furnished forms only and requires an original signed bond filed with the Building Permit Division.

Does the surety Power of Attorney authorize my permit representative?

Not by itself. The packet separately requires an attorney-prepared Limited Power of Attorney authorization on file for a representative taking out permits.

Is cancellation governed by the five-day correction provision?

No. The form separately specifies 30 days' written cancellation notice to the Building Official and retains the stated prior liabilities and unfinished permit work.
