Saint Augustine, FL — Contractor's License Bond

Have a written City of St. Augustine request before applying for this contractor license bond through RLI. The city's insurance limits and Notice of Commencement thresholds describe different documents, not an amount to select for the bond.

What this bond does

Prepare the contractor security identified in the city's written instructions while keeping the license, insurance and project records distinct.

Who needs it
Contractors with a St. Augustine city licensing-file request for a surety instrument.
Who it protects
The accepted surety wording defines the secured licensing conditions and beneficiary. It does not replace liability insurance or the project's recorded Notice of Commencement.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Read the city's document checklist by document type

The posted Planning & Building Department sheet lists a state-certified or registered license, liability insurance with a $300,000 minimum, and workers' compensation or exemption.

It separately describes a recorded Notice of Commencement before the first inspection for direct contracts above its stated $5,000 threshold, or $15,000 for HVAC. It names the city department as insurance certificate holder.

Use the actual surety request for the purchase

Those insurance and project-value figures are not bond amounts. Use the city's written request and accepted form for the principal, legal obligee, amount and period. The existing RLI card does not publish an amount or term.

Purchase Now opens RLI in a new tab. After issuance, check the executed document and follow the city's instructions for that instrument. The checklist's email directions for its listed documents do not establish a universal surety-filing method, and RLI issuance does not complete city licensing.

  5. Check execution and city delivery after issuance.

Questions about this bond

Is $300,000 the contractor bond amount?

That is the liability-insurance minimum on the posted city sheet, not a surety amount. Use the amount in the city's accepted bond instructions.

Do the $5,000 and $15,000 figures set the bond amount?

No. The sheet uses those figures for Notice of Commencement instructions tied to direct contract value, including its HVAC distinction.

Does a St. Johns County or St. Augustine Beach document settle the city request?

Not by its place name alone. Identify the requesting jurisdiction and ask the city whether an existing instrument is acceptable before treating it as a substitute.
