What this bond does

The bond supports the calendar-year contractor registration under Chapter 1307. Registration is separate from permission for a particular project, approved plans and required inspections.

Who needs it
The contracting applicant or business registering for General Building Trades. Match the applicant and DBA and identify the employed agents authorized to obtain permits in the company's name; other regulated trades need their applicable credentials.
Who it protects
The City is the named obligee. The form also benefits parties damaged by the contractor's failure to meet applicable City ordinances and lawful orders, and permits either or both to bring an action on the bond.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Details for the 2026 City form and the separate claim period

The current packet includes both the application and complete registration-bond form. Check General Building Trades and match the legal applicant, business identity and $20,000 sum. Execute the City's form and attach the required power of attorney or other evidence of authority when an agent signs.

The condition covers duties incurred during the 2026 registration period under the City's construction, alteration, repair, remodeling and other applicable ordinances and lawful orders. The undertaking expressly extends benefit beyond the City to damaged parties; it is not limited to reimbursing the registration office.

Registrations expire December 31 each year. The bond separately states that an action must begin within two years after the principal's registration expires; that is not a two-year registration or automatic bond term. Submit the original signed bond with the application by the packet's mail, in-person or City Hall drop-box route.

Questions about this bond

Can I submit a generic surety certificate instead of the City bond?

The 2026 packet expressly requires the original signed bond on the City's own form. Confirm that the issued document meets that requirement and includes any required execution authority rather than substituting a generic certificate.

Does the two-year action period make registration last two years?

The application says registrations expire December 31 each year. The bond's two-year period concerns commencement of an action after registration expires. It does not extend registration or establish a two-year purchase option.
