What this bond does

The Engineering Department's licensing instructions connect the security to work within the public right of way. They describe a guarantee of the contractor's work and allow certain temporary-pavement repair costs to be charged against the permit holder's account and/or license bond.

Who needs it
Contractors applying for Southington's license to work in public rights of way. A licensed contractor must separately obtain an excavation permit for each project.
Who it protects
The town requires the license security separately from the insurance certificate, project permit and trench-repair cash deposit. Purchasing this bond does not replace those requirements or provide liability insurance.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

The annual license and two-year security are different

The instructions say licenses expire on the first January following issuance, while the attached application calls for security effective for at least two years from the first day of the year in which the license becomes effective. Use the town's requested dates; do not reduce the bond period to the license expiration date.

The town's notice separately assigns trench backfill, compaction and temporary-pavement installation/maintenance to the permit holder and describes town-arranged final paving. Obtain the accepted surety form and current directions. After issuance, execute and post the bond for licensing; the separate project permit, police approval and utility-marking steps still apply.

Sources

Have these ready

  1. Provide the contractor's full legal name, official business address and emergency contact number.
  2. Collect the town's $5,000 security request, accepted form and exact two-year effective-period instructions.
  3. Have the license application's equipment and insurance documentation available separately.
  4. Identify the proposed ROW project without treating the bond application as its excavation permit.

Questions about this bond

Does this bond replace the trench-repair deposit?

No. The licensing notice describes a separate cash deposit for project permits in addition to license security. Follow the town's current request; a bond application does not establish a deposit credit or refund.

Can another contractor use my excavation license?

The notice says licenses are not transferable and the licensed contractor must supervise work issued under that license. Use the correct applicant rather than another company's license or security.

How do I start the bond application?

Purchase Now opens Propeller in a new tab. Check the principal, town recipient, accepted form, sum and dates. Issuance and filing are later steps; the Engineering Department must still issue the license and handle each project permit.
