What this bond does

This is account-payment security for an MLEC customer. The handbook's reference to a suitable guarantee does not make every bond acceptable; use the cooperative's instruction for your electric account.

Who needs it
An MLEC electric customer asked to provide account security and directed by the cooperative to use a surety bond.
Who it protects
The bond secures the payment obligation to MLEC described in the accepted document. It does not insure your wiring or equipment, and you remain responsible for electric bills.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Start with the electric account's security request

To obtain electric service, prospective members are required to submit a signed standard application or contract. As part of this process, the Cooperative may require a deposit or a suitable guarantee, which is approximately equal to twice the highest monthly bill. For residential customers, the Cooperative may consider a credit rating from a previous electric utility in lieu of a deposit.

Membership and the service application are separate from the bond application. Use the same legal customer on both. This page has one bond application option, with the amount and effective period supplied by your account request.

Keep service arrangements separate from the bond

MLEC's handbook treats customer wiring and equipment, utility access and changes in electrical load as service responsibilities. Providing a bond does not complete those requirements or schedule a connection.

If a change in your premises or electrical load prompted the security request, keep those details with the application. Ask MLEC which account and effective period the new security must cover.

Apply and submit the issued bond

Purchase Now opens Propeller's application in a new tab. Enter the customer name and account details from MLEC's request, and give the provider any required form or wording.

After issuance, check the customer and recipient names before delivering the bond as MLEC instructs. Keep the acceptance record. MLEC controls service activation and any later release of account security.

Sources

Have these ready

  1. MLEC's written security request and confirmation that a surety bond is acceptable.
  2. The electric account holder's legal name, service address and account reference.
  3. The cooperative's required security amount and effective date.
  4. Expected usage or proposed load changes, if MLEC requests them for the account.

Questions about this bond

How do I determine the security amount for MLEC?

The handbook allows MLEC to require a deposit or suitable guarantee, approximately twice the highest monthly bill. Use MLEC's final amount and confirmation that it accepts this bond for your account.

Does this bond also secure my broadband account?

Use the electric account and covered services identified in MLEC's bond request. Do not add broadband or another account merely because the cooperative provides both services.

Will the bond complete my membership and connect service?

The bond addresses payment security. Membership, a signed service application and any technical conditions remain part of MLEC's service process. Confirm connection with the cooperative after it accepts the issued bond.

Where does Purchase Now take me?

It opens Propeller's bond application in a new tab. Provide the electric customer's legal name, service address and MLEC security request. Applying is separate from issuance and the cooperative's acceptance.
