What this bond does

Tennessee Code § 56-35-202 requires a licensed title insurance agent to file a $25,000 bond, or cash and/or securities in that amount, with the commissioner within 30 days after the license is issued. The security must remain on file while the license remains in effect.

Who needs it
A licensed Tennessee title insurance agent arranging the financial security required under Title 56, Chapter 35. This is a professional title-insurance obligation, not a vehicle-owner title application.
Who it protects
The statute makes the bond payable to Tennessee for people who suffer pecuniary loss in a real estate transaction involving solicitation or issuance of title insurance because of the agent’s fraud, dishonesty, theft, embezzlement or willful misconduct.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

The obligation concerns title-insurance transactions and entrusted funds

The Department of Commerce and Insurance’s bond form calls for the principal to account for and pay funds to the person entitled to them and to conduct title-insurance business in compliance with state insurance law. The $25,000 is the bond amount, not an application fee or the premium.

The statute requires an authorized surety and a form acceptable to the commissioner. Use the name associated with your licensed role when completing the application, including any agency identity requested in your licensing paperwork.

Agent, producer and vehicle-title requests

Tennessee’s published form is headed “Title Insurance Producer’s Bond” but its conditions refer to a Title Insurance Agent under Chapter 35. Read the role and obligation in the licensing request rather than choosing solely by the heading.

The Southern Agency also has a separate Title Insurance Producer Bond listing. This agents page remains a separate purchase choice; the shared terminology is not a reason to switch your application to another listing. A lost vehicle-title bond concerns ownership documentation for a vehicle and does not address this professional obligation.

Keep the security aligned with the license

After issuance, file the bond with the commissioner as directed in your licensing instructions and keep proof of submission. Review the license date against the statutory 30-day filing period.

The department’s form provides for 30 days’ notice of cancellation by the surety and preserves claims from earlier transactions. That notice provision is not permission to leave an active license without its required security. Review replacement security before allowing a cancellation to take effect.

Questions about this bond

How much security does § 56-35-202 require?

It specifies a $25,000 bond or cash and/or securities in like amount. The bond premium is a separate price quoted for the application.

When must a licensed title insurance agent file?

The statute says within 30 days after the license is issued, with the security maintained while that license remains in effect.

Why does the department’s form use the word producer?

Its heading says Title Insurance Producer’s Bond, while the conditions describe a Title Insurance Agent’s Chapter 35 obligation. Match your licensing instructions and applicant role; the separate producer listing is not merged into this page.

Will this help me obtain a missing car title?

No. This bond relates to a licensed professional’s title-insurance activity in real estate transactions. Vehicle-title ownership bonds serve a different purpose.
