Terre Haute, IN — Contractor License Bond

Terre Haute requires a $10,000 bond on its own City form for general-contractor registration. The form names “City of Terre Haute, IN or an Unknown Third Party” as obligee. Work in the City right-of-way instead requires the City's $25,000 form and additional insurance.

What this bond does

Provide the correctly matched City license/registration surety for the contractor's activity and work location.

Who needs it
Contractors distinguishing ordinary general construction from City right-of-way work and separately licensed trades.
Who it protects
The $10,000 City form addresses loss, costs, expenses or damage caused by noncompliance with laws and rules pertaining to the license or permit during the bond term. It is not unconditional completion/payment protection for every private contract or a replacement for insurance.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Check the City form and whether the work enters right-of-way

The licensing page says no other bond form will be accepted. General registration excludes electrical, plumbing and mechanical work, which have their own licensing instructions; do not infer every trade's requirements from the general heading.

The City includes sidewalk, tree row, curb, street and alley work in its right-of-way notice. That request requires $25,000 instead of $10,000. Do not assume the existing choice here satisfies a $25,000 request; confirm the exact City instrument with the provider before completing the application.

Use Cityworks and check the actual issued dates

Registration and supporting documents go through Cityworks. The page requires the original City bond through its online service and expressly accepts the original scanned and attached through Cityworks for right-of-way work. Follow the applicable upload and execution instructions; mailing a bond alone does not complete the online registration.

City licenses/registrations run January 1–December 31. The $10,000 form allows a fixed-term bond to be continued by a surety-executed certificate; neither statement creates a fixed provider term or automatic renewal here.

Purchase Now opens RLI in a new tab. Match the applicant, accepted City form, recipient, requested $10,000 or applicable $25,000 instrument and dates before applying. After issuance, check execution and complete the Cityworks registration with separate insurance. Bond purchase does not grant the license, registration or permit.

Sources

Have these ready

  1. Identify the City activity, trade and any sidewalk/tree-row/curb/street/alley work.
  2. Have the exact required City form and correct $10,000 or right-of-way $25,000 request.
  3. Confirm the legal applicant, City-or-unknown-third-party recipient and actual dates.
  4. Check issuance and Cityworks document requirements with the separate insurance evidence.

Questions about this bond

Will a generic provider form be accepted?

The City licensing page explicitly requires its own form and says no other form is accepted. Confirm that match before applying.

Is the $25,000 right-of-way bond added to the $10,000 request?

The City's notice says $25,000 instead of $10,000 for work in its right-of-way, along with additional insurance. Do not create a second purchase or assume the existing option fits without checking.

Does the City's calendar license cycle guarantee automatic bond renewal?

No. Confirm actual bond dates and any surety-executed continuation separately. The form's continuation provision is conditional, not automatic.
