What this bond does

This offering supports the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department boat/motor title process. It is separate from TxDMV's motor vehicle bonded-title process.

Who needs it
An applicant whom TPWD has approved to obtain a bond for the boat and/or outboard motor identified in the approval.
Who it protects
A legal owner with a covered claim under the title bond. Buying it does not resolve a dispute or establish ownership of the boat or motor.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Use TPWD's approval and asset descriptions

PWD 388 tells applicants not to buy a bond until TPWD approves the bonded-title request. Qualified applicants receive a letter stating the amount and a bond form with applicant and asset details completed.

The instructions describe security at one and one-half times the asset value using TPWD's valuation process or an accepted marine appraisal. Use the amount in your approval letter. Boat and motor identification must match the assets approved; do not add the trailer to this boat/motor application.

Questions about this bond

Can I buy before TPWD approval?

PWD 388 expressly says not to purchase until TPWD notifies you of approval.

Does this include a trailer title?

This offering is named Boat/Motor. PWD 388 addresses vessels and outboard motors and excludes the trailer from its acquisition-value entry. Handle the trailer through its applicable title process.

Where do I apply for the bond after approval?

Purchase Now opens RLI in a new tab. Have TPWD's prepared form and approval amount ready; RLI's application does not issue the title.
