What this bond does

The packet's $10,000 bond is payable to the Town of Trumbull and/or the State of Connecticut. It backs compliance with the ordinance, application and permit conditions and applicable State Highway Department rules. Qualified excavators and utility companies may use the annual bond instead of a cash deposit for each permit.

Who needs it
The contractor applying for the town's encroachment/street-opening license. The application covers openings in public streets, highways, sidewalks and alleys under permits issued for particular work; it is not a general authorization to excavate without those permits.
Who it protects
The bond addresses restoration, maintenance, specified indemnity and fines or penalties under the covered conditions. Liability and property-damage insurance remain separate requirements, and the town says outstanding paving or other obligations can prevent license issuance.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

March license expiry does not end the restoration obligation

The application says licenses expire on the next March 1 unless sooner revoked and are not transferable. Its certification describes a bond expiring upon town release, while the bond refers to an annual undertaking. Confirm how the town requires continuation; do not infer that a March license date automatically releases the security.

The bond requires restoration to the previous condition and maintenance satisfactory to the town's agent for at least two years after completion. If the town repairs within that period after notice, the principal must pay the stated costs within 30 days. That payment period is not a cancellation notice or an issuance estimate.

Have these ready

  1. Use the licensed contractor's exact legal name and current town application.
  2. Have the accepted bond naming the required town/state recipients and confirm the requested sum and dates.
  3. Prepare separate liability/property-damage insurance and resolve outstanding town obligations.
  4. For each permit, arrange the written police traffic-safety plan and work location/schedule information described in the packet.

Questions about this bond

Does the license let me start any street opening?

No. The license application contemplates separate permits, and the packet requires current insurance/bond and a written traffic-safety plan as part of the permit process.

Is the two-year maintenance period the purchased bond term?

It is measured from completion of the work. It should not be substituted for the town's bond continuation or release instructions.

Where do I apply for this bond?
