What this bond does

Tyler Code § 6-100 requires a cash bond or performance bond payable to the city before a demolition permit is issued, subject to stated exemptions. The obligation includes timely demolition and removal of debris as the permit requires.

Who needs it
The applicant for a Tyler demolition permit when the city requires bond security. The ordinance includes exemptions for certain owner-supervised work and demolition under contract with the city.
Who it protects
The City of Tyler receives security for the permittee’s demolition and cleanup obligation. The ordinance allows bond proceeds to help defray the city’s cost of completing demolition and debris removal if the permittee fails to do so.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Match the amount to the structure and floor space

Section 6-100 lists residential amounts of $100 for 500 square feet or less, $150 for 501–750 square feet, $200 for 751–1,000 square feet and $300 for 1,001 square feet or more. Commercial amounts are $1,000 for 0–1,200 square feet and $2,000 over 1,200 square feet.

Use the city’s classification and accepted floor-area figure for your structure. These amounts describe the security, not the bond premium or demolition permit fee. Have the permit request beside you when entering the amount in the application.

Check the exemption and the actual cleanup deadline

The owner exemption requires the property owner to apply personally and certify that the work has not been contracted out and will be performed by the owner or employees or agents under the owner’s direct supervision. A contractor with a city demolition contract is exempt for structures covered by that contract.

The permit specifies the time allowed and which portions of a structure, if any, may remain. By expiration, the site must be free of trash, debris and salvage. Buying the bond does not extend the deadline or authorize leaving material behind.

Submit the issued bond with the permit materials

Choose Purchase Now and use the applicant’s legal name, demolition address, required amount, and dates. Check that the bond names the city as required and matches the demolition permit request.

Furnish the executed document to the city recipient specified in your permit instructions before permit issuance. Keep the bond and permit together, and retain completion and cleanup records. Any requested deadline extension is a permit matter for the city, not an automatic consequence of renewing or replacing a bond.

Questions about this bond

Is every owner required to buy a Tyler demolition bond?

Section 6-100 contains a specific owner-supervised-work exemption and a city-contract exemption. Do not assume an owner qualifies if the demolition has been contracted out; follow the city’s decision for the permit.

Is the ordinance’s bond figure the price I pay?

No. It is the security amount based on structure type and floor space. The provider quotes the premium separately, and the city’s permit charges are separate again.

Does the obligation end when the structure is knocked down?

The permit also requires removal of the portions not allowed to remain and removal of trash, debris and salvage by its deadline. Cleanup is part of the secured obligation.

When does Tyler require the security?

The ordinance says the cash or performance bond must be provided before the demolition permit is issued, unless an applicable exemption applies.
