What this bond does

Provide accepted street-opening indemnity and maintenance security to the Borough of Wilkinsburg.

Who needs it
Permit applicants opening borough streets, alleys or sidewalk areas.
Who it protects
The code conditions the bond on indemnifying the borough for losses arising from the opening and related work. Restoration and continuing maintenance duties are distinct from a guarantee of every private construction-contract promise.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Choose the scope of security

Section 226-17 states $3,000 for each opening or $10,000 for an indefinite number of openings. Confirm which arrangement the borough requests and whether existing security applies.

Even with multiple-opening security, the code requires a signed application for each opening. Supply the purpose, exact location, extent, dimensions, dates and plan or sketch; a larger bond does not authorize unlisted work.

Allow for the post-resurfacing period

The 24-month bond period follows permanent resurfacing of each opening, not the purchase date. The code separately requires the permittee to correct deficient restoration during the maintenance period.

The borough’s restoration guidelines distinguish asphalt, concrete and brick surfaces and address newly resurfaced streets. Obtain the applicable restoration scope before matching the condition; do not assume a small trench requires only a small surface patch.

Deliver security before permit approval

Have the provider compare the borough’s condition, applicant, sum and dates before purchase. The code requires execution and delivery of accepted security before a permit is granted, along with separate insurance evidence.

Follow the borough’s work notifications, Pennsylvania One Call and restoration requirements. Issuance is not excavation permission, and visible completion does not end the post-resurfacing obligation.
