What this bond does
WisDOT's instructions accept the bond in place of financial statement MV2195 and identify MV2511 as the required undertaking for that route. Once chosen, security must remain effective through the two-year license period; the form's continuous terms and actual dates matter.
- Who needs it
- The Wisconsin salvage dealer or recycler choosing the $25,000 bond route instead of the standard financial statement. Match the actual legal business and license class; a salvage buyer identification card is a separate credential.
- Who it protects
- MV2511 binds the principal and surety to the State of Wisconsin for the benefit of aggrieved persons under Chapter 218, including its specified salvage-dealer provisions. It is not a guarantee that the business remains solvent or insurance on its own property.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Questions about this bond
Is the $25,000 surety bond mandatory for all salvage dealers?
The application instructions permit $25,000 security instead of financial statement MV2195. That is an optional application route, not a statement that every dealer must buy a bond. MV2511 also identifies security specifically required by the Department; follow any such direction for your actual file.
What happens if my bond is canceled during my license term?
The instructions require replacement on or before expiration or cancellation to avoid suspension or revocation. Check the actual issued security and whether it is continuous; do not assume the license-renewal date automatically ends the bond.
Can I use any bond form to meet this requirement?
WisDOT identifies MV2511 as the only acceptable bond form for this application route. Complete the actual legal business name without DBA information on the bond and check owner/surety execution, witnesses and power of attorney.
Does buying the bond give me a salvage buyer identification card?
No. The bond is licensing security. The instructions describe BID cards separately: they are optional for the salvage license but needed to bid on vehicles at salvage pools. Check the separate card requirements before bidding.
