Company background
BHHC began as eight separately managed regional insurers, each writing mainly in its own home state. The remaining six companies began using the shared Homestate brand in the late 1990s as their business expanded beyond those original territories. Today, the organization’s public business includes commercial auto, commercial property, and workers’ compensation. It remains distinct from Berkshire Hathaway GUARD, despite the shared Berkshire Hathaway parent name.
