Alaska — Contractor's License Bond

Alaska's general contractor registration application calls for a $25,000 bond. Have your state registration classification and business name ready, then select Purchase Now to apply through RLI. Other contractor classifications have different amounts, so do not choose solely from the general page title.

What this bond does

This bond supplies the state registration security identified in Alaska's construction contractor application. It is separate from general liability insurance and from performance or payment security for a particular construction contract.

Who needs it
Construction contractors preparing Alaska state registration, especially applicants using the General Contractor application. Match any residential endorsement or other classification to the state's instructions.
Who it protects
The state's form names the State of Alaska and addresses lawful conduct and covered losses to the state or people with a qualifying claim against the contractor. It does not insure the contractor against every business loss.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Start with your state classification

The General Contractor application, revised September 2025, requires $25,000 in bond security. The appended state form separately lists $20,000 for a general contractor with a residential endorsement and $10,000 for mechanical or specialty contractors.

These are state classification distinctions, not a list of additional purchase options on this page. Have the classification and amount from your own registration instructions ready for the RLI application.

Prepare the bond and registration documents separately

Alaska's application identifies Surety Bond Form 08-4971. The form has separate principal and DBA fields and requires principal and surety signatures, the surety's seal and an attached power of attorney.

The general registration application also calls for separate liability insurance and applicable workers' compensation evidence. A bond purchase does not complete that state application or replace its insurance documents.

Apply through RLI, then assemble the state filing

Purchase Now opens RLI in a new tab. Apply using the legal contractor identity, DBA, classification and state bond instructions. After issuance, check the marked profession and amount, signatures, seal and power of attorney.

The application asks for original bond documentation and a copy, and says bond and insurance documents must be dated no more than 30 days before receipt. Coordinate document dates with the state filing. The registration renewal cycle is not proof of a fixed provider bond term; the state bond form contains its own continuous-liability and cancellation conditions.

Sources

Have these ready

  1. Before applying: identify the state contractor registration classification and any residential endorsement.
  2. Have the principal's legal name, DBA and requested bond amount ready.
  3. Use the state's bond form and requested effective date for the provider application.
  4. After issuance: check signatures, seal and power of attorney, then assemble the original documentation and copy with the state application.

Questions about this bond

Is every Alaska contractor bond $25,000?

No. The general application uses $25,000, while the state's form lists different amounts for a residential endorsement and other professions. Match the actual registration classification rather than assuming one amount applies to everyone.

Does this purchase register my business with Alaska?

No. Apply for the bond through RLI, then complete the state's contractor registration and any separate business licensing requirements.

Is the state registration period the bond term?

Not automatically. The state describes a registration renewal cycle separately from the bond form's continuous-liability provisions. Review the issued document and the state's instructions for your effective period.

What do I check after the bond is issued?

Check the principal and DBA, selected profession, amount and dates. Alaska's form also requires both signatures, the surety seal and the surety's power of attorney.
