What this bond does

This is registration security for an Alaska specialty contractor, not the larger general-contractor requirement or a guarantee that every customer's project will be completed.

Who needs it
Applicants whose Alaska construction contractor registration identifies the Specialty Contractor classification.
Who it protects
The form binds the principal and surety to the State of Alaska for the named profession's lawful conduct and covered claims. The issued form and applicable law determine the protected interests and claim conditions.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Mark the specialty classification on the state form

The state's shared surety form lists Specialty Contractor separately from General Contractor, General Contractor with Residential Endorsement and Mechanical Contractor. Specialty and mechanical each show $10,000, but that shared amount does not make their registrations interchangeable.

Use your actual specialty registration details in the principal and DBA fields. This page does not determine which trades your registration authorizes.

Apply, then check the issued document

Purchase Now opens Propeller in a new tab. Have the requested Specialty Contractor classification, $10,000 amount, business identity and effective date ready for the application.

After issuance, check that the correct profession is selected and that the principal and surety have signed. The state form also requires the surety seal and attached power of attorney. Follow the Construction Contractors Program's instructions for delivering your bond with the registration documents.

Keep insurance and registration separate

Alaska's bond and insurance guidance lists liability insurance separately from specialty contractor security. A certificate of insurance does not take the place of the $10,000 surety bond.

The state bond form has continuous-liability conditions. Do not assume a registration renewal date, or the three-year wording in the older quick-facts table, creates a particular Propeller purchase term.

Sources

Have these ready

  1. Confirm that your state registration category is Specialty Contractor.
  2. Have the legal principal name, DBA and state registration reference ready.
  3. Use the state's $10,000 specialty requirement and requested effective date.
  4. After issuance: check the selected profession, both signatures, surety seal and power of attorney before state submission.

Questions about this bond

Can I use this just because my trade is specialized?

Use it when your state registration calls for the Specialty Contractor classification. A business description alone does not determine the state's registration category.

Is this the same as an Alaska general contractor bond?

No. The state form lists the professions separately and assigns different amounts to general contractor classifications. Match the profession on your registration.

Does liability insurance replace this bond?

No. Alaska lists insurance and specialty contractor bond security as separate requirements.

Does the online purchase finish my registration?

No. Apply through Propeller, review the issued state bond form and deliver it under the Construction Contractors Program's instructions with your registration materials.
