Ankeny, IA — Utility Installation Right Of Way Bond

Ankeny distinguishes franchise utility coordination from additional non-franchise utility requirements. Match the actual installation, permittee and City security request; non-franchise restoration security is not automatically the same instrument or annual arrangement for every utility.

What this bond does

Security matched to Ankeny's actual utility-installation ROW/public-asset or public-utility-easement request.

Who needs it
The City-required utility applicant/principal, with facility owner, franchise status and performing contractor correctly identified.
Who it protects
Posted non-franchise §122.08 secures restoration of disturbed public space/assets, not every private utility contract. Actual accepted form and scope control liability and do not grant missing property/easement rights.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Identify franchise status and accepted restoration security

Development Engineering coordinates franchise gas/electric/fiber work, while the current ROW page separately directs non-franchise and small-wireless applicants to Chapter 122. Its non-franchise rules do not exempt franchise utilities from every other ROW requirement; identify the actual City-permitted installation and applicable Chapter 151 process.

Posted §122.08 requires non-franchise applicants to post restoration security before permitting, with a SUDAS-conforming surety bond and amount from the adopted schedule or a larger Engineer-assigned amount. It allows an annual bond or other security for numerous concurrent utility projects only at the Engineer's discretion. Obtain the actual form/sum and approved scope rather than assuming an annual option or guessing an unread schedule amount.

Prepare the route and keep the issued packet with the crew

The City asks for location/property/easement lines, utility type/size/depth, installation method, existing facilities and a detailed plan; anticipated traffic, sidewalk or trail closures need a reviewed traffic-control plan. Allow the City's stated minimum five-business-day application review, not an instant permit based on provider issuance.

Purchase Now opens Propeller; the option displays no fixed amount or term. Have the City and issuer match the actual utility/principal/recipient, instrument, amount and dates, arrange execution/accepted filing and separate insurance, then obtain the approved permit packet and keep it available to the on-site crew.

The linked general conditions separately require at least seven days' written notice to affected/adjoining owners with a copy to Engineering, and at least 48-hour Engineering notice before work. New buried cables/conduits use directional bore unless an alternate is approved. Follow actual changed-plan, restoration and inspection conditions; do not treat the applicant's work duties as a quoted bond duration or automatic release.

Questions about this bond

Does Chapter 122 apply identically to every utility?

It has specific non-franchise provisions and exceptions. The City separately coordinates franchise work; obtain the actual ROW/utility request rather than assuming a universal exemption or instrument.

Can any installation use an annual bond automatically?

Posted §122.08 makes the alternate arrangement discretionary for numerous concurrent utility projects. Have the Engineer approve actual scope, form and amount.

Does the provider receipt let the crew start?

No. Obtain the approved City permit packet, accepted security and required notices/traffic arrangements. The crew must have access to the issued packet on site.
