Aurora, IL — Contractor License Bond

Aurora has different contractor-license tracks. Obtain the City's written request and identify the division and class before applying for this contractor bond through Propeller; public-right-of-way licensing uses a separate City instrument.

What this bond does

Prepare the contractor security identified by the City for this applicant rather than importing Public Works conditions onto an unspecified class.

Who needs it
Contractors with an Aurora written request for a license-related bond matching this offering.
Who it protects
The accepted instrument defines its beneficiary and secured obligations. Aurora's Public Works performance and maintenance security has a different stated role and must not be mistaken for universal General Contractor license security.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Identify the license and division first

Aurora's contractor licensing page explains electrical and mechanical testing acceptance. Its contractor account dashboard distinguishes active licenses, building permits, inspections and planning or engineering projects.

The separate Public Works page says the Building and Permits Division's General Contractor license does not cover public-right-of-way work; that requires a Public Works contractor license through Engineering.

Match the City's instrument, not just the title

Public Works lists a $20,000 performance and maintenance bond for its right-of-way license classes. That amount and its February 28 validity date do not establish the terms for every Aurora contractor-license bond. Use the actual City written request for this applicant's class, obligee, amount, period and accepted form; the existing Propeller card displays no amount or term.

Purchase Now opens Propeller in a new tab. Compare the issued instrument with the City request and deliver it as directed. Obtaining a bond, activating a contractor account and receiving permission to work in a public right of way are separate steps.

Sources

Have these ready

  1. Identify the City division and contractor-license class.
  2. Have that division's written request and accepted form.
  3. Match applicant, recipient, amount and period to that request.
  4. Do not import Public Works terms into a general contractor request.
  5. Check issued security and City delivery separately from portal access.

Questions about this bond

Is Aurora's $20,000 Public Works bond the amount for this page?

Not automatically. The City gives that figure for a separate right-of-way Public Works performance and maintenance instrument. Use the request for your actual contractor class.

Can a General Contractor license cover right-of-way work?

Aurora's Public Works page says the Building and Permits Division's General Contractor license does not cover that work. Ask Engineering about the separate Public Works track if it is your project.

Does a provider application activate a City license?

No. City licensing, any accepted security and the contractor's account or permit record are separate. Follow the City's actual filing and approval instructions.
