Bedford, IN — Street Cut / Sidewalk Bond

Have Bedford's Street Department identify the security for the actual cut or sidewalk encroachment before ordering. The published Code contains different excavation and encroachment bond clauses, including a single-family driveway/sidewalk exception; one flat amount does not explain every request.

What this bond does

City-requested security for the actual Bedford public-street, alley or sidewalk work and restoration obligation.

Who needs it
The permit applicant/contractor responsible for the approved work, with any owner, subcontractor and applicable exemption confirmed.
Who it protects
The Code addresses restoration of disturbed public places and specified damage/indemnity conditions. The accepted instrument defines surety liability; it is not evidence that every private construction obligation is guaranteed.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Describe the cut, sidewalk and associated occupation

The City application distinguishes street, alley, sidewalk and shoulder work; cut, bore and trench methods; utility or sidewalk purpose; dimensions and traffic effects. Describe the full operation, including unattended equipment, rather than selecting by Street Cut / Sidewalk in the offering's title.

The posted application requests plans and describes original application submission in person, by mail or email, alongside its online form. Coordinate the actual Street Department review and any Board approval. Obtain the actual endorsed permit before relying on permission to encroach.

Resolve the applicable amount and exception with the City

Published Section 97.24 sets excavation security between $1,000 and $5,000, with the Board of Public Works and Safety fixing the sum and approving the surety. Section 97.62(F), in the later encroachment provisions, instead states a $10,000 City bond and exempts single-family dwelling driveways and sidewalks as defined there.

Have the City identify the applicable clause, work scope and accepted security. Do not choose the lower figure or assume every sidewalk job is exempt. The current application does not reconcile those Code provisions or establish which instrument this offering supplies.

Keep bond issuance separate from City acceptance

Purchase Now opens Propeller; the option displays no fixed amount or term. Supply the City's actual request, legal principal/City recipient, accepted form, sum and dates, and confirm the issuer's match before arranging execution and filing.

The posted conditions require completion inspection and maintenance of open-cut repairs for one year after final acceptance, subject to their stated exceptions. Its separate commencement/completion clocks govern the permit, not a quoted bond term. Follow the actual restoration, inspection and release instructions rather than treating payment or a finish date as approval or expiration.

Questions about this bond

Is $1,000 automatically the correct amount?

No. The published excavation clause gives a Board-set range, while the later encroachment clause states $10,000 with a defined exception. Obtain the City's actual direction for the work.

Does every residential sidewalk job require this bond?

Section 97.62(F) has a single-family driveway/sidewalk exception. Confirm the precise scope, including associated cuts, and the applicable City provision rather than assuming a universal requirement or exemption.

Is the one-year repair obligation the provider's bond term?

No fixed provider term is displayed. Repair maintenance after final acceptance and permit-life clocks are separate from the accepted instrument's force and release conditions.
