Bloomington, IN — Lane, Bike Lane, Or Sidewalk Closure Bond

Identify exactly which Bloomington travel lane, bicycle space or sidewalk will close, for how long and with what alternative access. The City's ROW process covers closures without excavation; a whole-street closure does not automatically include the adjacent public spaces.

What this bond does

Security requested for the actual Bloomington lane, bike-lane or sidewalk closure and accepted permit conditions.

Who needs it
The legal closure applicant, coordinated with the organizer, property user or contractor responsible for the traffic/pedestrian arrangements.
Who it protects
The accepted City instrument defines the secured closure duties. Buying security does not grant traffic authority or guarantee every private event or construction obligation.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Describe the affected space and alternative access

The City FAQ requires ROW permission for closures even without digging. Its 2024 flowchart separates public-space uses and says a street closure does not encompass adjacent sidewalks, multiuse paths, protected bicycle lanes or metered/residential-permit-zone parking. Show each affected space, its limits, closure dates and the temporary access/traffic arrangement.

Have Engineering identify the approval route and security for those specific restrictions. This Lane, Bike Lane, or Sidewalk offering and the separate Street Closure offering have different purchase destinations; their names alone do not establish interchangeable instruments.

Arrange the bond and City approval separately

Apply for the City permit through Civic Access; the current process no longer accepts the paper application. Its checklist includes an appropriate bond, insurance, temporary traffic plan and site plan. Approval to obstruct a sidewalk or bicycle facility is not established by the issuer's application.

Purchase Now opens Propeller; the option displays no fixed amount or term. Give the issuer Engineering's accepted form, legal principal/City recipient, assigned sum, dates and actual closure scope. The City's two linked bond examples have different continuation and cancellation wording; neither assigns terms to this offering.

Complete the actual City document acceptance and closure/traffic approval before setting up the restriction. Confirm reopening, removal of equipment/signage and any release or continuation conditions rather than assuming the last closure day ends the bond.

Questions about this bond

Can a street closure automatically include the adjacent sidewalk?

No. The City's flowchart excludes adjacent sidewalks and other identified public spaces from that category. Show the actual sidewalk/bicycle/parking impacts separately.

Do I need City permission if nobody is digging?

The City's FAQ says closures require ROW permission even without excavation. Confirm the approved arrangement for the actual space and dates.

Does the final closure date establish bond expiration?

Not by itself. Use the accepted issued document's dates/conditions and actual City direction; the linked examples differ and do not guarantee the provider's terms.
