Columbus, OH — Contractor License/Registration Bond

Columbus' shared Contractor License or Registration Bond is fixed at $25,000. Its 2026 General Contractor packet distinguishes the individual registrant from an assigned business concern; type each name in the correct field. Bond expiration follows the license or registration, not an automatic December 31 rule.

What this bond does

Support the actual Columbus contractor license or registration under the applicable Chapter 33 or 41 requirements.

Who needs it
Individual licensees/registrants and their associated businesses confirming the correct class application and assignment.
Who it protects
The form binds the principal and surety to the City, care of its Treasurer, for the stated City loss/damage conditions arising from licensed work. It does not automatically secure every private contract or replace the separate liability certificate.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Keep the individual and business fields separate

Use the individual name as it appears on the actual application, then the exact assigned company name where applicable; the company field may be blank for an individual operating without a company name. Do not use the General application for every class just because its packet includes this shared form.

The instructions permit electronic or facsimile registrant/attorney-in-fact signatures and seal. The surety name must match the power of attorney, and bond execution must be on or after its effective date; a later-dated power of attorney invalidates that execution under the instructions.

Distinguish renewal from a change of assignment

For a bond still in effect at renewal, the City allows its number and the signed Renewal Cover Letter statement instead of a continuation certificate. A Change of Assignment requires a rider or new bond. The form ties expiration to the license/registration's twelfth-month ending; confirm the actual dates.

Purchase Now opens RLI, not Building and Zoning Services. Confirm the class, individual/company, accepted $25,000 form and dates; check execution and submit all additional City paperwork together through the permitted email, mail or in-person route. Issuance does not grant registration.

Questions about this bond

Must I always put only the company in the individual field?

No. The City requires the individual licensee/registrant there and any assigned company in its separate field.

Are electronic signatures and seals always rejected?

These instructions accept electronic or facsimile registrant/attorney-in-fact signatures and surety seal.

Does ordinary renewal handle a change of business assignment?

No. The City separately requires a rider or new bond for a Change of Assignment.
