What this bond does

Iowa Chapter 80A uses agency security for faithful, lawful and honest conduct in the licensed business. A single licensed business type has a $5,000 minimum; more than one has a $10,000 minimum.

Who needs it
Agencies arranging Iowa private security or private investigation licensing security, especially businesses holding both types. Match the principal to the agency license, not an employee’s ID card.
Who it protects
The bond supports people injured by breach of its conditions, including conduct by the applicant’s employees in the licensed business. The surety’s aggregate liability cannot exceed the bond sum.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Identify every licensed activity on PD6

The official PD6 form has separate boxes for private investigation, private security and bail enforcement. For this security/investigation offering, make sure the marked activities match the agency application.

DPS requires the agency name on the bond to be the same name used on the license application. Adding an investigation license to a security-only agency changes the statutory minimum from single-type to multiple-type security.

Apply and prepare the completed documents

Purchase Now opens Propeller in a new tab. Have the agency identity, license types, PD6 instructions and required dates ready.

Once issued, check the principal, bond sum, marked license types, principal witness and authorized surety signature. DPS directs initial applicants to upload the bond and completed PD6 together. The separately required liability insurance certificate must also match the agency name.

Questions about this bond

Do security and investigation need two $5,000 bonds?

Chapter80A requires at least $10,000 when the agency conducts more than one licensed business type. Use the DPS request and PD6 form for the combined agency rather than assuming two single-type instruments satisfy it.

Is the injured party or DPS named in the official form?

PD6 binds the principal and surety to people injured by a breach. The completed licensing security is submitted to DPS; the receiving department and protected people have different roles.

Does this replace employee ID cards or insurance?

No. The agency bond is one licensing requirement. DPS separately requires liability insurance evidence and ID cards for individuals performing regulated services for the agency.
