What this bond does

This is local licensing security under Lakewood Municipal Code 5.24.110. It is separate from the city’s pledged-property insurance requirement and does not itself approve a pawn location.

Who needs it
Persons and permitted business entities seeking or renewing a Lakewood pawnbroker license for their actual city premises. Match the operator on the license application, not a different owner or manager’s name.
Who it protects
The code requires the bond for the benefit of the people of Lakewood, conditioned on lawful safekeeping or return of tangible personal property held by the pawnbroker and observance of Chapter 5.24. The City Manager or designee approves the surety.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Prepare the premises and operator records

The City Clerk’s new-license instructions list zoning evidence, a deed or current signed lease, applicable corporate good-standing evidence, an insurance policy and the $10,000 bond. They also identify background paperwork for qualifying owners; the bond is only one part of that city application.

The code separately addresses pledged-property insurance for fire, theft and casualty losses. Do not substitute this licensing bond for that policy or assume an insurance certificate satisfies the approved-bond requirement.

Keep the approved bond in place

Purchase Now opens Propeller in a new tab. Prepare the exact applicant and location, $10,000 city request, accepted recipient/form, and required dates. After issuance, check the instrument and submit it through the City Clerk’s licensing process for approval.

Termination or cancellation can lead to summary suspension. The code’s 30-day period after a replacement demand concerns subsequent revocation; it is not permission to keep operating without an approved bond. The annual license renewal cycle does not supply a term for this unlabeled purchase option.

Questions about this bond

Can I use pledged-property insurance instead of this bond?

The city lists insurance and the bond separately. Section 5.24.110 bars issuance or renewal without the approved bond; Section 5.24.290 separately addresses pledged-property insurance.

Does the bond guarantee approval of the shop location?

No. The city’s application separately requires zoning and possession-of-premises evidence, along with its other licensing review.

Is there a 30-day operating grace period if the bond ends?

No such operating grace period is stated. The code permits summary suspension upon termination or cancellation and addresses later revocation if replacement is not furnished within 30 days after demand.
