Lincoln, NE — Use Of Public Space Bond

Lincoln's Street Use process requires current bond and insurance information before a company applies to use public space for construction. This page's purchase route is RLI. Confirm the City's requested form and permit chapter before issuance, particularly if the request concerns a continuing structure above or below public property rather than temporary street use.

What this bond does

Arrange the accepted Lincoln public-space bond through the existing RLI application after matching the actual City requirement.

Who needs it
The company or other applicant named in Lincoln's public-space request, with construction use distinguished from continuing property occupancy.
Who it protects
The City provisions address compliance with permit conditions and protection of the City from losses arising from the permitted use. The bond does not replace public liability insurance or confer a right to occupy the street.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Start with the City's street-use request

For private-construction use, Code 14.29.010 specifies a $5,000 City-Attorney-approved bond or certified-check alternative. Building Safety's current contractor requirements list a one-year renewable Street Use bond with start and end dates. These are City requirements, not a term stated by this RLI option.

The current Street Use process is for City-licensed companies. It calls for current bond and insurance information, a street diagram submitted for review and the online permit application. A complete submission still requires City review and approval.

Confirm the RLI form and any continuing-occupancy requirement

Purchase Now opens the existing RLI application for this Nebraska offering. It lists no fixed bond amount or term. Give the issuer the City's request, applicant's legal name, work location, accepted form and required dates; the exact form match remains to be confirmed.

Do not use the annual Street Use instructions for every public-space request. Code 14.54.040 separately requires continuing occupancy security of at least $5,000 or the Council-set amount, with exceptions for fence and retaining-wall applicants. It includes public-way safety and removal obligations while the use or structure continues.

For Street Use, submit the issued bond and separate insurance through Building Safety's current submission route before applying. If the City instead requests continuing-occupancy security, obtain its directions for that instrument. Neither RLI issuance nor purchase on another Lincoln page establishes City acceptance or permit authorization.

Sources

Have these ready

  1. City's written public-space request, permit chapter, location and nature of use.
  2. Legal applicant and City licensing information for the Street Use process.
  3. Accepted City form, assigned sum and dates; annual Street Use versus continuing-occupancy requirement.
  4. RLI form-match confirmation, issued-bond filing, separate insurance and actual permit approval.

Questions about this bond

Which provider does this purchase link use?

This page retains its RLI application. A separate Lincoln occupier offering uses a different purchase route; the two have not been confirmed as interchangeable instruments.

Is the RLI option already set to $5,000 for one year?

The catalog option supplies neither a fixed sum nor a term. The City lists those requirements for its Street Use process, but the issuer must match the actual City request and accepted form.

What if the City asks for a continuing bond?

Get the permit chapter and form reviewed before issuance. Lincoln's above-or-below-public-property provision has continuing security and possible Council-set amounts, distinct from annual Street Use instructions.
