What this bond does

Mason requires security with its application to make improvements in the right-of-way, including jacking, boring, tunneling and open cuts. The requirement is tied to the identified work and restoration.

Who needs it
The contractor applying to Mason Engineering for permission to make the specified right-of-way improvement.
Who it protects
The application addresses work and restoration under city standards. Its attached performance form identifies a particular contractor, owner and contract; it is not a promise to cover every unrelated project or a substitute for permit approval.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Select the work method before the amount

The 2025 application distinguishes jack-and-bore or directional-bore work from open cuts. For either method, roadway security is listed at $10,000 per lane. Driveway security differs: $2,000 for the boring category and $4,000 for an open cut.

Other improvements list $4,000 for pavement and $2,000 for unpaved work. Give Engineering the project location, affected lanes, method, purpose and utility owner, and obtain its calculation. Do not reuse the different roadway and driveway figures from older application versions.

Match the performance instrument

The application says the bond accompanies the submission and must be valid for at least six months. That minimum is not proof that responsibility ends six months after purchase.

The packet includes a performance-bond form with contractor, surety, owner, contract and bond details and power-of-attorney instructions. Ask Engineering how the approved ROW work is to be identified and have the provider match the requested instrument. Do not replace it with an unrelated general contractor-registration condition.

Apply, submit and obtain the Engineer's approval

Purchase Now opens Propeller's existing Mason Right of Way Bond application. Supply the confirmed work, amount, form and dates, then check the issued document and attachments before submitting the permit package through Engineering's instructed process.

The application says the permit is not valid without the City Engineer's signature. Bond issuance does not supply that approval or an easement for work outside the city's right-of-way. Follow the city's construction and restoration standards and obtain completion/release direction for the accepted instrument.

Sources

Have these ready

  1. Identify boring, open cut or other work, roadway lanes and driveway/pavement location.
  2. Use Engineering's calculation from the 2025 work categories.
  3. Confirm the attached performance instrument, project/contract description and required dates.
  4. Review the issued bond and attachments, file the permit package and obtain Engineer approval.

Questions about this bond

Does Mason publish one bond amount for every ROW job?

No. The 2025 application distinguishes method, lanes, driveways, pavement and unpaved work. Have Engineering confirm the applicable sum.

What is the minimum validity stated in the application?

At least six months. Confirm the accepted condition and release requirements rather than assuming that minimum fixes the end of liability.

Why does the packet ask for contract information?

Its attached performance form identifies a particular contract and parties. Have Engineering and the provider confirm how the approved ROW work must be described.

When is the permit valid?

The application says it is not valid without the City Engineer's signature. Purchasing a bond does not provide that signature or grant permission.
