How a fidelity bond works

Fidelity protection responds to covered dishonest acts. The form identifies whose money or property is protected, the covered persons, and the applicable limits.

What this bond does

Janitorial fidelity protection addresses covered employee theft involving customer money or property during service work. RLI’s application describes a conviction condition: coverage for alleged employee dishonesty requires a conviction.

Who needs it
A Missouri cleaning or janitorial business purchasing customer-property theft protection or reviewing an expiring bond. A client’s requested limit and the makeup of the workforce should guide the coverage decision.
Who is protected
The exposure is covered theft affecting customers’ money or property, subject to the issued bond’s terms. The bond is not a promise to compensate every loss a customer reports or an insurance policy for every kind of cleaning accident.

Choose from 2 options

Each option is a separate record. Where a term, bond amount, premium, or E&O limit is known, it is listed; match it to what your requirement asks for.

The coverage amount describes a limit of protection, not the price. Match the requested protection and covered persons to the actual fidelity form. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Choose the period without assuming renewal terms

The existing options are a one-year RLI bond and a three-year RLI bond. Compare the period you want with the effective and expiration dates shown in the application. A three-year selection describes duration; it does not establish a larger limit or broader covered-person definition.

Before replacing an expiring bond, review the current document and the proposed replacement dates. Ask how the form treats a loss discovered after work was performed and any gap between periods. Do not assume an automatic renewal or a particular discovery period from the term label.

Revisit the limit when the business changes

An older limit may not match a new customer’s contract. Compare the requested limit with the value and accessibility of customer property, and review how the form applies that limit, its deductible and exclusions.

RLI’s application asks for full- and part-time employee numbers, owner count, whether owners are to be covered and prior employee dishonesty losses. Update those answers for the current business rather than copying an earlier application. Owner or subcontractor participation should be checked against the actual covered-person wording.

Keep theft protection separate from liability and service promises

RLI’s conviction condition is important when describing protection to a customer: an allegation or unexplained shortage alone is not enough to establish coverage. The issued form supplies the full conditions and exclusions.

Accidental damage, bodily injury and failure to complete cleaning are different risks. Keep any general liability insurance and service-contract obligations separate. Select the one-year or three-year Purchase Now option to open RLI in a new tab, review the limit and effective dates, and retain the issued bond with your customer records.

Questions about this bond

Are one-year and three-year Missouri bonds separate products to find elsewhere?

Both term choices are on this page. Use the Purchase Now link for the period you want, then review the application's coverage and effective dates.

Does three years automatically provide more theft coverage?

Duration and limit are separate choices. Compare the limit, covered-person wording and claim conditions rather than treating the longer term as broader coverage.

Will my bond renew automatically?

Do not assume that from the term label. Review the issued bond and the provider’s continuation or replacement instructions before its expiration date.

Must an employee be convicted before the described RLI coverage applies?

RLI’s janitorial application expressly states that conviction of the alleged dishonesty is required. Read the issued form for that condition and all other exclusions and claim requirements.
