What this bond does

The bond belongs in the County Department of Land Use's permit-endorsed Outside Utility license file. It is not a substitute for a project's separate performance or payment security.

Who needs it
Contractors applying in New Castle County's Outside Utility category with the Department of Public Works prequalification documentation.
Who it protects
The statutory form backs covered legal/code compliance, corrective work, County charges and protection of the County. The license file also has separate business-license, insurance and qualification requirements.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

The prequalification letter has its own validity period

The County asks Outside Utility applicants for a current Certification of Prequalification Letter from its Department of Public Works. The checklist says that letter is valid for two years from its date.

That two-year letter does not establish a two-year bond term. Use the Outside Utility category and its $50,000 amount, not the amount for another utility-trade classification.

Match the County's fixed license cycle

The 2026 County form states a January 1, 2026–January 1, 2027 license period, requires an effective date of January 1, 2026 or later, and expires January 1, 2027. It cannot be continued past that expiration.

The “2025–2026” label is not a promise of twenty-four months from checkout, and the option card does not publish a term. Purchase Now opens Propeller in a new tab. Arrange the County's unmodified form, match the business identity and dates, and complete the County application after checking the issued document.

Questions about this bond

Does my two-year prequalification letter set the bond term?

No. The checklist gives the letter a two-year validity period, while the County's 2026 bond form has a fixed January 1, 2027 expiration. They are different documents.

Can the 2026 form continue beyond its expiration?

The posted form expressly says it may not be continued past its expiration date. Use the County-accepted form and dates rather than assuming a rolling term from the product label.

Does this replace a project performance or payment bond?

No automatic substitution is established. This form secures the County contractor-license obligations. Follow any separate project security instructions for the actual contract.
