New Jersey — Locksmith Bond

New Jersey’s locksmith business application offers a $10,000 State-payable bond as an alternative to additional insurance security. A locksmith-only business still needs its separate $500,000 general liability policy. Apply through The Southern Agency with the business identity and licensed qualifier ready.

What this bond does

The official bond conditions the obligation on proper performance of licensed duties and compliance with the applicable statute and Committee rules. It is not a substitute for the locksmith business license or the qualifier’s individual credential.

Who needs it
New Jersey locksmith businesses using the bond route for the LX business category, including businesses matching their structure, trade name and licensed locksmith qualifier to the application.
Who it protects
The instrument is payable to the State of New Jersey and backs the duties stated in the official form. Do not describe it as general liability insurance or promise automatic payment of every customer’s claim.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Name the business and identify its locksmith qualifier

The application separates Locksmith Business (LX) from alarm/locksmith combinations. It asks for business structure and trade-name or entity records as applicable, plus the locksmith qualifier’s 34LS license information and affidavit. The qualifier must hold the license category the business seeks.

For locksmith-only operations, the posted packet lists $500,000 general liability insurance plus either $10,000 additional State-payable coverage or a $10,000 State-payable surety bond. The insurance certificate names the Committee as certificate holder; that does not change the State as bond obligee.

Check the posted form’s dates before applying

The current posted surety form prints an ending date of January 31, 2029, with the starting date to be completed. That printed date is not a term supplied by this page’s public purchase option or a promise of a full three-year period from purchase. Match the accepted form and requested start date.

Purchase Now opens Propeller in a new tab. Review the business/principal, locksmith activity, State wording, $10,000 security, and dates. After issuance, check execution and provide the bond and separate insurance evidence with the Committee’s business-license materials as directed. Additional alarm activities need the correct application categories and qualifiers, not an assumption that an LX application covers them.

Sources

Have these ready

  1. Business legal identity, structure and trade-name/entity documents as applicable.
  2. Licensed locksmith business qualifier, 34LS information and required affidavit.
  3. $10,000 State-payable bond request, accepted form, and start/end dates.
  4. Separate $500,000 locksmith-only liability certificate with Committee wording.

Questions about this bond

Must I buy both the $10,000 bond and additional security coverage?

The posted business packet presents those two $10,000 security routes as alternatives. The separate general liability requirement remains; do not confuse it with that choice.

Should the bond name the Committee as obligee?

The official bond is State-payable. The Committee is identified as certificate holder on the separate liability insurance evidence; those are different documents and roles.

Can I use a locksmith-only category for alarm work too?

The application lists combined categories and requires a licensed qualifier for each category sought. Identify the actual services and application rather than extending an LX credential by assumption.
