What this bond does

City of Portage, Indiana security for the actual approved public ROW opening and restoration request.

Who needs it
The City-required applicant/principal, with owner-versus-contractor selection and the performing contractor's details correctly identified.
Who it protects
The accepted City bond determines surety liability for covered permit duties. Applicant responsibility to restore/maintain the surface and provide insurance does not turn the bond into unrestricted private-project insurance.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Describe the opening and upload the actual bond

The Building Department's actual ROW link opens Planning & Community Development's online Construction Permit Application. It asks for the property owner/location, owner or contractor applicant type, purpose, surface type, width/length, work dates, drawings and contractor information.

The application requires $5,000 bond and liability insurance, provides bond-upload, number, expiration and status fields, and requires asphalt road repairs by INDOT-certified contractors. Confirm the accepted City form, correct principal/recipient, actual dates and separate insurance filing; do not assume the property owner and bonded contractor are always the same party.

Use the start and closure notices for their different purposes

The current application calls for notice before and immediately after boring/cutting and specifically says to notify 24 hours before starting. A road closure separately requires 48-hour notice to police, fire, street, City Engineer and school transportation. Arrange the actual notices with the City rather than treating one as a substitute for the other.

Purchase Now opens Propeller; the option displays no fixed amount or term. Match the City request with the issuer, arrange execution and accepted upload/filing, and obtain actual work approval before starting.

The applicant agrees to maintain the restored surface for one year. Keep actual restoration/inspection and release or continuation instructions; that work duty and the application's expiration field do not establish a fixed one-year provider contract.
