What this bond does
File and maintain the general lender's security required by Section 19-14-6 and the Department of Business Regulation's active lender rule.
- Who needs it
- Applicants and existing licensees arranging a Rhode Island general Lender License through NMLS.
- Who it protects
- The bond runs to Rhode Island for the State and people with a cause of action under Title 19. It secures the licensee's compliance with that title and lawful rules, and money owed under those provisions. It does not insure every loan, investment or borrower loss.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Questions about this bond
Can I use the $10,000 Small Loan Lender bond?
Not as a substitute for the general Lender requirement. Section 19-14-6 and the active rule assign $50,000 to general lenders and different amounts to other license classes.
Does perpetual coverage mean there is no cancellation process?
No. The statute permits release by the director or surety cancellation with the required advance notice. Liability incurred before the notice period ends is preserved.
What happens if a canceled bond is not replaced?
The statute provides for suspension unless the surety reinstates the bond or a satisfactory replacement is filed before cancellation. Address a notice promptly with DBR.
Does the NMLS application automatically complete the bond filing?
No. Confirm DBR's accepted bond, execution and submission requirements and retain acceptance. This guide does not assume a particular electronic bond workflow solely from NMLS license filing.
