What this bond does

Provide the City of Santa Fe's required street-cut security for the licensed applicant's permitted work. The street-cut license, individual excavation/restoration permit, and bond are distinct documents.

Who needs it
Contractors and other applicants arranging street cuts in City public places. The included ordinance treats franchised utilities separately and includes qualifying utility contractors under stated conditions; do not assume every contractor has that status.
Who it protects
The licensing provisions describe completion of the permitted work, City completion costs, and corrective work. This concerns the street-cut obligation, not a general guarantee of the applicant's entire construction contract.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Keep the license and work permit separate

The packet includes a street-cut license application, an excavation/restoration permit, and a $10,000 Street Cut Surety Bond form. The license requires insurance, bonding, and the applicant's ordinance certification; it does not replace the permit describing each work location.

Prepare the primary contractor and license details, work address, surface type, utility information, opening dimensions, schedule including restoration, and traffic-control plan. Check any historic-area, archaeological, boring, or small-wireless approvals that apply to the work.

Confirm the bond wording and maintenance period

The included bond form describes a one-year bond period, with continuing maintenance liability for earlier work measured from completion and City acceptance. The packet's ordinance also describes two-year corrective-work responsibilities. A one-year form entry is not evidence that all duties end a year after purchase.

Ask the City to confirm the accepted street-cut instrument and how it must address the work and warranty obligation before using the existing RLI application. Do not substitute the separate insurance cancellation wording for the surety's provisions.

Submit the issued bond for City acceptance

Check the principal, amount, dates, and required execution against the City's instructions. Submit the issued document with the applicable licensing and permit material as directed by the City's street-permit office.

Obtain the approved work permit before proceeding. Bond issuance is not permission to excavate, and inspection, restoration acceptance, and later corrective-work duties remain part of the City's process.

Sources

Have these ready

  1. Confirm City jurisdiction and whether the applicant is an ordinary license applicant or has recognized franchise status.
  2. Obtain the accepted $10,000 street-cut surety wording and required dates.
  3. Prepare the work sketch, licenses, insurance, traffic plan, and applicable historic or utility approvals.
  4. Have the City clarify the form's maintenance period against the included corrective-work provisions before ordering.

Questions about this bond

Does a street-cut license authorize every excavation?

No. The packet separately requires a street-cut permit describing the particular work. Licensing and bonding do not replace that authorization.

Can I assume this obligation ends one year after purchase?

No. The included form has continuing maintenance language for earlier work, while the included ordinance describes two-year corrective responsibilities. Confirm the currently accepted bond wording and dates with the City.

Do all utility contractors qualify for the franchise treatment?

Do not assume so. The packet's definition includes independent contractors performing services for a franchised utility subject to stated notification conditions. Have the City confirm your status.
