What this bond does

The Board's mechanical contractor package specifies $300,000 security for Group 5 applicants who choose that alternative.

Who needs it
Group 5 mechanical contractor initial or renewal applicants using the surety bond financial qualification route.
Who it protects
The State of South Carolina is the named obligee, with protection for parties damaged by the contractor's defined construction-contract breaches or unlawful construction acts or omissions.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Prepare the Group 5 undertaking

The Board package requires continuous security while the license is maintained unless a qualifying financial statement is submitted. Its form limits aggregate surety liability to the stated sum per twenty-four-month license term, November 1 through October 31. Cancellation requires thirty days' notice and does not erase accrued liability.

Sources

Have these ready

  1. List HVAC, mechanical, and gas work separately.
  2. Bring the license or permit request and any required bond form.
  3. Identify the legal business, qualifying person, trade, and project address where applicable.
  4. Have the legal applicant name, named recipient and requested form available.
  5. Prepare the Group 5 classification, legal applicant and Board form for the provider application. After issuance, arrange the required execution and Power of Attorney attachment for Board filing.

Questions about this bond

Can this replace the required financial statement?

Yes. The Board package allows the $300,000 Group 5 bond with an initial or renewal application instead of the required net worth or working capital statement.

Is this the same as a project performance bond?

Check whether the request concerns your ongoing license, permission for a particular site, or performance of a contract. Bring the trade classification for a license request and the contract or permit for project security. A license bond does not automatically secure completion or payment on every job.

Does the Group 5 amount make issuance automatic?

No. Start the provider application for review. Surety issuance and the Board's license decision are separate steps.

What happens after I select Purchase Now?

You continue to the provider in a new tab. Review the applicant, form, amount and effective dates before completing your application. Keep the issued document and deliver it using the requesting party’s instructions; payment alone does not grant a license or permit.
