What this bond does

The city's application provides for security to ensure work meets the approved plan's standards, specifications and criteria. It is site-specific erosion and stormwater plan security, not a general contractor license or permission to begin earthwork.

Who needs it
The applicant responsible for the approved Suffolk land-disturbance project. The application records the applicant and landowner separately; use the city's bond request to establish the legal principal.
Who it protects
The city receives security for the approved work. The Administrator determines the amount. The permit application leaves that amount blank, so the project acreage or catalog title alone does not establish the required sum.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Plan for stabilization and the release request

The September 2025 application makes release contingent on final inspection findings and construction record drawings. It states that release occurs within 60 days after the inspector deems disturbed areas permanently stabilized and approved record drawings are received. Finishing excavation alone does not establish release.

The applicant must request the final inspection in writing for release of the security. Keep that later request separate from the surety application, execution and initial delivery of the bond. The city's permit also requires advance work notification and sediment controls before work; buying the bond does not satisfy those steps.

Sources

Have these ready

  1. Have the land-disturbance permit, approved plan and project location.
  2. Keep applicant and landowner identities distinct and obtain the required principal/recipient wording.
  3. Collect the Administrator's amount, accepted form and required effective dates.
  4. Retain the city instructions for execution, filing, record drawings and later final inspection.

Questions about this bond

Can I infer the bond amount from the disturbed acreage?

Not from the reviewed application. It records acreage but assigns the surety amount to the Administrator. Use the city's project-specific security request.

Does completing the earthwork automatically release the bond?

No. The application ties release to final inspection, permanent stabilization and approved construction record drawings, with a written inspection request from the applicant.

How do I start the application?

Purchase Now opens Propeller in a new tab. Match the principal, city recipient, plan/permit reference, accepted form, amount and dates. Issuance, execution, filing and permit approval remain separate.
