What this bond does

This offering concerns work within Summit County-controlled right-of-way under a road-opening permit, not all municipal streets or a general contractor license.

Who needs it
The permit applicant or responsible contractor arranging security for identified county ROW work.
Who it protects
The opening permit assigns restoration, traffic protection and compliance duties to the permittee. The county's accepted surety condition must establish the particular secured obligation and release terms for this RLI offering.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Identify the county ROW and opening

The Engineer's current resident page describes roadway-opening permission for work within county right-of-way. Its selected permit form asks for the road, county-highway number, township, ROW width, location, type, depth and distance from pavement.

The permit grants no greater private-property rights than the county holds. Confirm the actual road authority and any private access rights rather than treating the county name or issued bond as permission for every location.

Separate the ordinary request from a utility's annual bond

Posted Code section 903.01 describes a minimum $100 security or an amount specified by the Engineer, with certified check or commercial performance bond acceptable. It separately allows a public utility to post an annual $5,000 road-opening surety.

Those provisions do not assign this unspecified RLI option an amount or confirm it is the utility annual instrument. Obtain the Engineer's current work-specific sum, accepted condition, recipient and dates. A code minimum or annual alternative is not a substitute for that direction.

File the instrument and arrange construction oversight

Purchase Now opens RLI's existing Summit County Road Opening Bond application. Give the provider the Engineer's request, check the issued principal, obligee, sum, work and dates and submit it through the county's instructed process.

The current permit form calls for 24-hour notice to the Engineer before starting, a copy of the permit and plan on site, and county-standard restoration. It has its own expiration field. Obtain authorization, any special provisions and release direction separately; neither provider issuance nor a permit period establishes the bond's end.

Sources

Have these ready

  1. Identify the county-controlled road and exact work location and method.
  2. Prepare the permit's road, township, dimensions and applicant information.
  3. Obtain the current Engineer-selected sum and condition, including whether a utility annual request applies.
  4. Check/file the issued RLI document and arrange work authorization, notice, inspections and restoration.

Questions about this bond

Is $100 automatically enough for every opening?

No. The posted provision expressly allows an amount specified by the Engineer. Obtain the amount for the actual work.

Is every applicant eligible for the $5,000 annual alternative?

The posted code describes that alternative for a public utility. Do not apply it automatically to another contractor or assume this RLI instrument matches it.

Does the permit give private-property rights?

The form says it grants no greater private-property rights than the county holds. Resolve required access separately.

Does the permit's expiration fix the bond term?

No. Have the county/provider confirm the surety condition, dates and release independently from the permission period.
