Utah — DOT Single Encroachment And Right Of Way Bond

Use UDOT's single-encroachment form when the region requests security for one identified encroachment on state highway property or right-of-way. Prepare the region number, specific project location, approved amount and dates; this is different from UDOT's continuous multiple-use bond.

What this bond does

Secures completion of the permitted work, restoration of affected state right-of-way and the warranty described in UDOT's individual encroachment bond.

Who needs it
Contractors applying for an individual UDOT encroachment permit for construction or maintenance affecting state highway right-of-way.
Who it protects
UDOT is the obligee. The form addresses the specified permit work and damage to state right-of-way and its appurtenances, rather than a general guarantee for every project performed by the contractor.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Match the single-use form to the site

UDOT's individual form has fields for region number, specific project location, bond number, amount and expiration. Use the region's requested amount; the current permit page says UDOT may require more than the minimum according to scope risk.

This page's single-use offering is not the continuous multiple-use instrument. It also does not replace a utility owner's Statewide Utility License Agreement or another prior approval that applies to the work.

Check both dated coverage and the completion warranty

The individual form secures completion, proper restoration and replacement of state right-of-way damaged by the principal, including affected roads, ditches, bridges and culverts. It requires a three-year warranty from completion of the permitted work.

The form also contains a dated three-year term and expiration field. Have the region and provider align those entries with the required post-completion protection; do not assume that three years from purchase satisfies a warranty measured from completion.

Issue the bond as part of the permit file

Prepare the detailed plans, site-specific traffic control, liability certificate and storm-water compliance documents. UDOT directs applicants to list covered subcontractors or ensure they obtain their own permits; prior access or utility approvals may also be necessary.

Purchase Now opens the existing Propeller application. Confirm it can issue UDOT's individual form, then provide the issued bond for permit processing. Obtain the permit, contact the inspector at least 24 hours before mobilizing and keep the permit onsite.

Sources

Have these ready

  1. Identify the UDOT region, legal principal and specific project location.
  2. Obtain the region's required amount and individual-form date instructions.
  3. Prepare plans, traffic control, insurance, storm-water documents and subcontractor details.
  4. Retain the issued bond, permit and completion records supporting the warranty period.

Questions about this bond

Is this the statewide multiple-use bond?

No. UDOT publishes separate single-use and multiple-use forms. Match the region's request to the individual form and identified project on this page.

What amount should I request?

Use UDOT's instructions for your scope and risk. The current linked form leaves the amount blank and the permit page allows UDOT to require more than the minimum; no fixed selectable amount is supplied by this catalog option.

Does the three-year warranty begin at purchase?

The form measures the work warranty from completion. It also has dated term and expiration entries, which the region and provider should align with that requirement.

Can I mobilize as soon as the bond is issued?

No. Complete UDOT's separate permit process, obtain the permit and notify its inspector at least 24 hours before mobilizing.
