What this bond does
The bond supplies the security required for the Utah investigator licensing process. Private investigator licensing transferred from BCI to the Division of Professional Licensing on September 1, 2026.
- Who needs it
- Utah investigator applicants matching an agent, registrant, apprentice or agency request to the correct bond. An individual investigator license and an agency license are different credentials.
- Who it protects
- The bond is licensing security filed with DOPL, not liability insurance for an investigation. Current agent and registrant law requires evidence throughout the licensing period and issuer notice if the bond is canceled or expires.
Choose from 2 options
Each option is a separate record. Where a term, bond amount, premium, or E&O limit is known, it is listed; match it to what your requirement asks for.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

Questions about this bond
Do I still send the license application to BCI?
No. The official transition notice says licensing transferred to DOPL on September 1, 2026. Follow the current DOPL instructions.
Are the two options different bond terms?
The public options do not state amounts or terms. Use the provider application and your current DOPL request to verify the instrument; do not infer terms from the option labels.
Does an agent bond let me operate an agency?
Not by itself. Current law requires the additional agency license for an agent to investigate independently through an agency or supervise and employ other investigators.
