Virginia — Watercraft Dealer Bond

Virginia's in-state watercraft dealer instructions call for a $5,000 surety bond signed by the surety and the owner or a company officer. Prepare that dealer filing with DWR rather than a boat owner's title application or a salesperson-only credential.

What this bond does

Supply the watercraft-dealer security requested in the Virginia DWR licensing process. The correct dealer category and other application documents still need to be established.

Who needs it
A watercraft business preparing the Virginia dealer application. DWR distinguishes the dealership from salespersons, demonstrators, manufacturers and wholesale or out-of-state roles.
Who it protects
The accepted dealer form supplies the surety obligation for the licensing file. It is separate from insurance covering the boat, an accident during a demonstration or the dealer's own business property.

Your bond option

This is the option on record for this bond.

The bond amount describes the limit of the bond obligation, not the price. A listed amount does not establish what the requesting party requires. The premium is what you pay and must be confirmed for the actual option. An E&O limit, where listed, is separate errors and omissions insurance.

DWR needs the original dealer bond

DWR's in-state dealer checklist says to mail the original signed bond to its Watercraft Dealer Licensing Staff; it may not be faxed. The online licensing system does not remove that original-document instruction.

The checklist separately addresses the sales-tax certificate, new-watercraft dealer agreements, local business licensing and business inspection. Salesperson and demonstrator credentials are also distinct. Identify your actual dealer role before applying another category's requirements.

Purchase Now opens Propeller in a new tab. Check the dealer's legal name, required instrument and dates, then follow DWR's original-document directions after issuance. Buying security does not grant a dealer or salesperson license.

Sources

Have these ready

  1. Confirm whether the file is for an in-state dealer or another DWR category.
  2. Use the dealership's legal name and owner/officer signing authority.
  3. Have the required bond form, sum and requested dates ready.
  4. Arrange original-document delivery separately from online dealer licensing.

Questions about this bond

Can I fax the issued dealer bond?

DWR's in-state dealer instructions call for the original document mailed to the Watercraft Dealer Licensing Staff and say it may not be faxed. Check the current instructions for your actual category before filing.

Does this also license my sales staff?

No. DWR treats the dealer, watercraft salespersons and demonstrators as separate roles. A dealer bond and provider application do not issue those credentials.

What if I am applying from outside Virginia?

DWR publishes separate out-of-state categories. Confirm the applicable registration or license and security instructions with DWR before using the in-state dealer checklist or this purchase option.
